  • cant see him properly.. But this is 'Bumblebee' Parked up in a lovely spot for a cigarette and a chat with a friend and he took a photo of my bike as it was parked

I love living in such a beautiful place.

  • or do I bite the bullet strip out the frame and have the frame and fixings powder coated?

    Bigben, what state is your bike in now, and how rich are you feeling? I'm at the beginning of a rebuild for someone else;

and I am genuinely scared at the money that needs to be spent to get the thing running and looking good. BMW parts prices have gone through the roof since I last did this, and if you do the full monty, frame strip, respray to paintwork, etc, everything has to be as close to perfect as possible and that will mean a huge amount being spent on new parts. It may be anality on my part, but you cannot use rusty nuts and bolts on a re-stoved frame. The seat needs to look and feel new, (so it will have to be new), the electrics, when you get new wiring throughout, and new relays, regulators coils etc, will work as well as you want them to on your shiny bike, and the clocks will need a new circuit board and the list just goes on and on and on. The one I'm doing is an RS (not as nice as Coppis to start with) being de-fairinged and having high bars. If I ever do this to mine I will have won the lottery.

  • I'm going to sleep on it but I reckon I'm going for the full monty, strip it and complete the rebuild over the winter.

I've done and bought loads already, the rear sub frame and lots of parts are already powder coated, new stainless fixings, exhaust and silencers, loads of new seals and minor but expensive bits.

The frame paint was terrible and the engine casings are crusty, I've masked and sprayed the frame with the engine in situ but...

The clutch seal is leaking, the splines haven't been lubed in my time and I'll bet not for a long time. Everything I've stripped and rebuilt was in neglected condition including finding an inch and a half of thick sludge in the fork bottoms!

I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

  • 36x18 nut and bolt restorations are scary. or put like you have they are truthfully scary. there doesnt seem to be an ending point. maybe there is a middle ground were presentable and reliability are the driving factors.

doubledragon bumblebee looks very happy. where were you?

  • OK, decision made, the beast is going to be torn down.

I am therefore conclusively out of the pootle to France.

    It will be worth it!

  • Main paint work is still ok, not stunning but ok so black with gold pin stripes. Got a chip on the tank which I need to touch up.

main paintwork will have to wait anyway, too many new bits needed to make it run and non rusty!

Brake caliper piston and seal kits £100 each ffs!

  • look on the bay as there are a few people breaking bmw's i picked up a few pieces.

this afternoon i fitted a krauser/hepco pannier frame to mine. i need to replace a couple of the bolts as they are now a little bit too short.

  • Right, I know I've let the potential ride slip, but I still fully intend to do it. I've had an operation and am recuperating. Once I'm properly back on my feet and can ride again, I will get some dates down for a decision. Bear with me, it'll be fun...

  • Thanks for the advice. can anyone recommend a good used dealer in the greater london area? I like the look of the Honda cb350. The cb500 looks a bit beefy for me.

Haha he was. ticking after a nice little ride. (Jumped over a whole cattle grid)

If anyone's ever in Cornwall with their bike give me a blip and I'll take you to some nice spots or something...

  • My olds mans scooter been in family since new, he's done it up a few years ago.

  • Stunning ^

Watched TT3D the other day. Amazing film / documentary.

Cannot believe the level of commitment these guys have.

This is Connor Cummins crash in 2010. NSFW or if your easily offended.

He was back on the bike in 2011.

  • Holy shite. Never seen anybody bounce like that before. Lucky he didnt hit the wall

  • Thats quite a drop of the Verandah.

He's a very lucky boy, and a top gent to boot.

RAP superbikes in Hampstead. I had few occasion to go there as my mechanic is friend with the owner (Ricky is his name I think)...

They have a lot of old nice looking motorbikes all very well restored. Maybe as cheap as going on ebay, but I guess you have some garantee / reliability on what you get, and after service...

    http://www.rapbikes.com/

  • I've seen in the flesh that naked honda goldwing they have (RAP superbikes), really impressive...

    L

  • If you were looking at bikes cb500 go for ages take loads of abuse and sell for what you buy them for.

Might be worth while to look at Kawasaki ER5/ER500/GPZ500 they seem to be cheap. If you want an idea of bikes look on used bike guide hey have a handy used bike guide with guide prices and stuff that handy to know.

Survived the cut slicks and the even were fine in the rain but didn't last long. Sub 1200 miles.

  • random act of kindness just now.

a man came by my friends yard the other day and was looking at my motorcycle. i left him alone and watched as he looked the bike over and smiled to himself, seemingly reaquainting himself with the marque. i eventually got talking to him and he said that he used to have a bmw many years ago which he toured on through prague and most of europe. more talking and then he said that the bike had long since gone but he might have some bits and pieces still knocking around for it if i wanted them i could have them.
he just passed by again and gave me an old 'roll up' bmw tool kit like the one i used to have that was with the bike that got stolen also a bmw bag, a mountable socket for bmw accesories ,,,,, bit like a cigarette lighter, an old bmw first aid kit and a bmw emmersible water heater thing that plugged into the mountable socket and a mosquito repellent thing that also plus into the same socket...... how cool and kind was that?
he says he will look around to see if he can find anything else for me.

    bit like this

  • What a lovely chap :D

  • Took my bike into Essential Rubber for it's MOT. Throughly backed really good honest people and really helpful. Pads

  • +1 essential Rubber are great - shame they aren't still in Dalston though.

Maybe if they launched an Espresso Bar Gallery Space waiting area they could have stayed.

  • New bike tattoo today randomly, bike got in a crash and bars got alittle fucked appretnly
