Sorry if this is a lazy repost, but I was looking at an article about a man in the states who rigged up an alarm in his water bottle which electrified the bike with a stun gun. It's connected to a PAYG mobile phone with GPS hacked that refreshes every 15 seconds, so you can track your bike with your laptop. If your bike gets nicked, you can more or less just get on the laptop, find where it is, make sure it's not moving, ring the phone which activates the stun gun making your bike unrideable while you or the police go and pick the bike up. Costs 35 cents a day to run or something. Pretty amazing idea.

just a quick one. i heard m&s insurance is great for bikes. not had to claim yet (luckily) but i know people that have had good experiances with them. bikes are covered on their regular home insurance.

Hi, I just moved to London (one week ago) and got my bike stolen after only a few days... It was d-locked inside the building where I work and got stolen on thursday in Dalston close to Dalson Junction overground station.
It's an amazing Look Team Replica 96, i has a carbon frame one of the first ever produced in the 90s. Very recognizable: black with red wheels and 'Mondrian' stickers.
I'm posting this here because I had the project to turn it into a fixed gear bicycle, in order to use it for commuting to go to work. Hope to find it back because this bike was pretty unique.
someone probably heard you were going to make it fixed and saved it from you.
Just kidding, hope it turns up. -

One of my drivers just phoned in: Witnessed a guy stealing a carbon Bianchi (Celeste) form a rail in Shaftsbury Ave on the junction of High Holborn, opp the theatre. The theif walked up to the rail, whipped out a large set of bolt cutters and chomped straight through the Lock!!!!!! 4 seconds.... Either a parrot beak / fireman style cutters or a really really shit lock. Driver claims it was a D but wan't 100%.
By the time my guy was out of the van the cunt had vanished.
Be vigilant out there. -

I feel really sad for you! My LOOK frame was sawn through on Saturday so someone could steal my girlfriend's Bianchi.
Now the insurance company are being a pain in the backside too. Steer clear of RBS Home Insurance if I were you.
what sort of problems are you getting?

what sort of problems are you getting?
Well shortly after getting the Look and Bianchi we called them up to ask if we could add them specifically to the insurance, the chap told us that they were covered under the house insurance anyway and we didn't need to do anything extra. Now they're saying they're not covered at all!!
We've got records that proved we made the call but they're still being incredibly unhelpful and denying that the bikes were covered. They seem determined that their standard customer is a thief trying to make a false claim and will do anything they can not to pay out! We're giving them £26 per month for the pleasure of being treated like sh*t as well!!

^ nice =/
Are they saying that they would be covered if stolen from home? I'm currently with Direct line and have had to take special Cycle insurance with them to get them covered when I'm out and about.
Also dealing with Aviva for a claim against someone that trashed my bike and they are the worst company I have ever dealt with =/

No they are just going back on everything they have previously said. When they're trying to get your premiums they promise you the moon on a stick, when you go to make a claim they treat you like you're a criminal.
All we found in the info they sent us was that the bikes should be covered as long as they're locked up. Now they're saying they don't cover bikes unless they are specifically mentioned on the insurance policy, however when we phoned to put them on it they told us they were covered and we didn't have to specify anything! They're just a bunch of lying bastards - steer well clear if I was you.

When dealing with insurance, i take great care to have everything they say in written form. If it not on paper, preferrably with the insurers/police/etc. stamp on it, they will act as if it never happened.

Anyone lost a white Marin single speed conversion with spok?!?!
Cheapo fixies and cobbled together single speeds seem to be the rude bwoys choice these days, instead of full suss mtb! Inevitable i suppose.

Dear friends & all eagle eyes,
My bike got stolen again! IF YOU HAPPEN TO SEE MY BIKE
last time (Nov08) I managed to track it down,
so maybe it's possible again - I'm sure it will be on offer somewhere...My special bike was kidnapped again last night, 14 June 2011, from Gillet square behind the Jazz Vortex Club
YELLOW FRAME (Monoc TC2 concept - no visible branding as this is the 2nd time it gets stolen): and GREEN FRONT WHEEL, SINGLE - SPEED FIXED with a BLACK STRAIGHT HANDLE BAR and a BLACK SADDLEAttached a unfortunately quite blury picture of my bike when it got stolen now (for the second time) below
(not sure if those old photos, from before it got stolen the first time, help to recognise it better: www.flickr.com/photos/32175108@N06/?saved=1)I will have a look on gumtree and ebay and bricklane on sunday and have a chat with the guys from Tower Hamlets.
- I thought I drop everybody i know in london an email and some of you guys
might have a special eye ;) being out there surfing the city
i was wondering if you would mind to get it touch if you happen to see this bike.
my mobil: 078.4021.3846 / my email: grithartung@googlemail.com
= There are not that many of this kind of bike out there i believe, but it will be more difficult to find it back this time
I'm very grateful for your help!
Thanks for keeping your eyes open!
Grit

Went to get some brick lane bagels today and would you fucking believe it, there it was locked up outside! Half an hour later and I'm watching the police go at the lock with bolt croppers. When that wasn't enough a guy from the bagel shop came out with an angle grinder! The bike is now back with my incredibly happy housemate Sara.

Yeah, bit of a shame to waste such a good angle grinder...

Some hipster probably brought it from broadway market the otherday and was planning on posing with it at brick lane. they just locked it up so they could go to beyond retro and buy some vintage tees

Following my amazing bike being stolen, I tried to refer the theft to the task force team. Firstly they wouldn't deal with it as police had closed file day after theft. After hassling them, I was told that there are 12 officers for the whole of London, that they dont investigate individual bike theft, but are only concerned with organised teams of bike thieves. I did point out the stupidity of his statement. I also suggested they hang out at Broadway market every sat morn. He said they don't have the staff for it.
He said they also have the important task of making sure cyclists cycle safely around London.
Wtf do they do? oh yes nothing. The e-mail address and phone number are in the original post here:
http://www.lfgss.com/thread52193.html
Did you read that thread?
Tim, I'm not sure whether they want Titus' personal contact details posted on-line. Things might not be picked up if he's not on duty. dicki was given the other mobile number to call. You might want to edit that.
I've just added something to the other thread about being cautious about posting on-line when you've found your stolen bike on Gumtree or elsewhere, following Rowhan's experience.
probably get flamed here, but maybe just throw a fahg on it when its locked up overnight, then do more research into its ownership from there? sounds suspect, though might be legit, you never know.
