When moving, I can't see that riding fixed would be any worse than SS. In fact the positive momentum part might make it better. If you use braks to slow down rather than resistance while you build back your strength you'll be fine.

Are you having any sort of physio on your ankle as a result of the fracture? Might be a better question for them. Otherwise if it hurts, stop doing it.

Run two brakes, not just the front.
You'll find it a LOTS easier on the knees, helped my dad too.

Then call Scherrit of Bike Whisperer instead, while doctor do know what they're talking about.
Remember, it worth asking a doctor if he/she cycle, they'll have a better idea of what to recommend.
my current doctor, cycle as well, so when I have a sprained wrist, his advice was to change the bar for an upright one, or ride an upright bike to miminalised impact on the wrist.

The bike shop opposite The Playhouse sells fixed gear bikes and parts - they're pretty good in there.

Not any more, I left home for uni five years ago and never went back. I'm in Tiptree visiting my parents at the moment though - if you see someone on an orange fixed Peugeot give me a shout!
I've not been to 53-12 but I'll check them out. The bike shop in Mark's Tey is amazing - the owner is some old dutch guy who walks around in his 1980s racing jersey all day (and slaps himself in the face when he makes a mistake).

oh right, dont think ill be here my entire life to be honest, the culture here is just a bit different to most places for some reason, man i shout every time i see a fixed gear haha!
53-12 is pretty rad i mean they named them self after a gear ratio, but there perfectionists in there like make everything run perfectly whereas colchester cycles (opposite wilkinsons) i use when i need my dirt jump bike fixed, dont know why i use two different shops but hey.
that sounds brilliant! il end up going in there and make him do something wrong just to see him slap himself!
yo,
its been a couple of months since ive posted on here, if you dont want to read my boring story then the question is:
will the force of a fixed gear cause damage to my ankle/talus while still recovering from an injury?
story time: im recovering from a severe talus fracture (basically the ankle but the part that is more serious to break) and AVN of the bone (partial deal due to blood vessels being cut) its been almost 4months in plaster now and soon i will be allowed back on the bike, but im not sure if fixed gear will cause problems if i return to it too soon, like should i ride freewheel or a bit until my ankle and talus is back to full strength and fully recovered, the last thing i want to do is cause more damage and have another setback
any advice/comments would be appreciated
thanks
