ones a brand, the other is a description. to me at least, duck tape is a brand of duct tape.

I say gaffer tape

Gaffa tape isn't necessary the same duct tape is.

Gaffa is usually black (or coloured) for laying cables down, as used by gaffers and AV riggers.
Duct tape is the silver heavy duty stuff for repairs - it's thicker and more sticky.

I have 3 Ultegra 6500 front derailleurs. I've tried mounting them on two different bikes and everytime I've got the derailleur set up correct, the cable rubs the plastic spring cover, when the chain is on the small ring. Are they supposed to do that?

itunes question - I had to transfer all of my music onto an external drive when my laptop was being rebuilt. I was on an older version of itunes then, but have had to download a more recent one which also suits the 64bit nature of my laptop (Windows 7).

Last night I transferred my music back onto the new itunes and tracks played, but now if I try to play any of them I get this error message; 'The song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?'. If I select 'locate' I'm routed to the following path 'Computer/OS (C:)/Windows/System32', which contains all manner of gibberish I can't begin to fathom.

So - why did music play yesterday but not now? How can I enable all my tracks to play?

How did you back it up? If you backed up your 'My Music' folder, you should be able to add that folder as a whole to your new library. Should be a one click job, could you specify how you backed it up and where you put it on your new install?

One of the tech-blokes took care of transferring all my data so can't be certain how it was done. We were able to transfer it all back onto my laptop as you describe, as a one click job, but at the moment I can't play music like I could last night. Everything is sitting in itunes as it should.

itunes copies all the music into its own folder - so perhaps this folder has been removed?
it won't just play music from a place in your hard drive, at least not on mac (so take this with a pinch of salt)..

Check your itunes preferences, go to advanced and check that your itunes media folder location is the same as where your music now is on your hardrive, that should fix it.

I suspect that'll work. I also suspect I'll wait until I'm in the company of someone less aggressive and more patient than myself to confirm this techno-stuff.

It will be out the window in no time if I'm left to it. I actually found the 'preferences' menu by my giddy-self, which is more than I could ever have hoped for, so I feel like I've won already.
