i never said i can't get up the hills
You can see how a stupid person could have made that mistake, though.
thought i might be able to fit a small chainring on it for those huge hills

Is there a reason why you'd want to get a threaded headset with the exact stack height for your frame/forks. I can imagine the main reason would be aesthetics, though is the headset more likely to come loose if you have spacers fitted?
Let's say that you're getting a custom frame built (this isn't a "my friend" story, I'm not getting a custom frame), wouldn't it make more sense to have the threaded fork steerer cut slightly longer than necessary for a particular headset's stack height. That way you could fit a multitude of different headsets as required rather than being limited to particulars...

Cool story bro, but there's only one threaded headset a normal person would put on a custom frame, and Chris King isn't about to start changing the stack height.

I actually have a custom frame with a Chris King headset on it (I asked for the steerer to be cut to the exact length too), but that's not the point. The question stands o tester of mdccs.

OK, to answer the question, a couple of small spacers are going to make no difference to the performance and reliability, and anybody properly concerned with either would go threadless anyway.

Phew. I didn't think we were going to make it for a second. We got there in the end. :)
-
• #46808
actually its a 14-28 6 speed
then what's the problem? if it really bothered you, just get a 46t chainring instead of the 48t one you have right now.
-
• #46809
it doesn't really bother me, it was just an idea

I've got Apex on the CX bike with a compact double and the monstor ratio cassette- I can believe that this combination would climb anything, slowly.

perfect for off-road isn't it?
also I find that gearing suitable for a fully laden tour, what felt too spinny end up feeling perfectly right after adding weight (or the missus).

im looking at my frame it has its seat post and saddle on it, almost there...

Getting there. Been slowly collecting parts, just in need of some wheels now.

• #46815
what frame is that? looks dope
forks look very slack, or it is just the pic?
-
• #46816
Why thank you, it's a GT Pulse. The forks are slack but the picture isn't great so makes them look even more so.
-
• #46817
Pulse looks far nicer than others I've seen. Did they do a newer model?
