You don't owe anyone an apology. A major part of hosting is having contingency plans in place. No event should ever rest on any one person's shoulders.
I think you're absolutely right. We haven't had another polo session since the weekend so I can only speak for myself but I think that is one of the main things to take away from this. The other being a much clearer idea of the maximum number of teams for a single court on a one day tournament (especially one held on a Sunday).
