I rode home under the influence once, along a country lane without street lights. And fell off, into a ditch. Then, several years later I rode home, under the influence, and rode into a wall. Then some more years later, I rode home under the influence, and fell off, into a hedge.
I think I need to stop riding home... just saying.

i havent ridden my fixed completely battered but i have on my bmx. tried hopping up the sloped bit of a curb, somehow span 90 degrees left and ended up half under a cab! "what the fuck are you playing at?!" - "dunno mate. im fucked."
rode back to my mates house to find i have half the skin on my left knee missing and scratches all down my leg. rode home along a duel carraigeway for 5 miles and somehow didnt fall into the road still amazes me!

Ukrainian vodka. Simple ride home from Bethnal Green to E11. Nearly home, toppled sideways, caught the kerb edge with my face, broken nose.

Claridges Bar on Monday night, went in for one drink, to check it out and pretend to be posh... I was with a group of 6 blokes and we all had our medals on.
Got talking to some random geezer who insisted on buying drinks, and who ended up spending £750 on champagne. This was on top of several pints of Pride, and more champagne at the evening do we'd all been to. Nothing to eat except nibbles on trays.
I was minging when I woke up. The commute from Camden Town to Canary Wharf seemed to take about 5 minutes. I remember being on the wrong side of the road near the British Library. As soon as I walked into the office, my workmate knew I was pissed, and told me not to go near any bosses because I stank of booze, even after a shower.
The hangover kicked in at about 11. I spent the afternoon being very sorry for myself. -

I love all these stories of doing it once.
If you see me on a bike after 10pm I'm probably drunk.

Life would be very difficult, if I couldn't ride home drunk.

This
Last week I did it, I came around Hammersmith Broadway from Barnes and attempted to turn left down King Street I went straight into the kerb and scraped along it and for some reason I just couldn't stop doing it so I stopped and stepped up onto pavement much to astonishment of some pavementeers "that was close mate" etc. I got back on a rode very wobbbbbly the rest of the way.
That wasn't the worst Ive been but the closest I've come to losing it.

+2 It's not big and it's not clever, but I do it and I'm not ashamed. If I die or lose a limb I'll blame no one but myself.

well if the tube ran all night perhaps I'd cycle home drunk less often... a 30minute cycle v. 2+ hours on the nightbus, it's obvious which you'd pick

Do people cycle faster when drunk?? Coz I am sort of scared (usually the following morning) of how much faster I am when I have had a few drinks...

alcohol is apparently a muscle relaxant, so you should be able to spin quicker!
I cycle home drunk a couple of times a week, and have never hurt myself. shock horror.

It's rubbish. You might save some time taking a few extra risks but it's always slower than you think.
I'd check my computer after a blast home from work in Melb only to find it was acutally a crawl and I just thought I was moving fast. -

There must be something to drinking and going faster. They used to do it on the Tour back in the day, few glasses of wine. Stops you feeling the pain of the climbs.

Stopping pain riding up a mountain in the 1950s != going faster on a ride back from the pub
-
• #172
Correct!
In fact the only reason I ever drink is to go 1mph faster.
-
• #173
this is why I never drink and driving lol
