Just finished this weekend. Pleased with the end result. Just had a quick spin and as you'd expect, it's bloody lovely.
Two points,
I would have liked to put italian gumwall clinchers on but the cheapest I could find were £40 a pop so those'll have to wait.Yes I know they're SPD's! They're all I've got at the moment too. I'll probably change to SPD-SL at one point although putting Shimano on this would be blasphemy right?
V. nice! Love the colour, the bars look massive though! You should definately get campy pedals as well :)

purple colnago is very very nice... fuck campag pedals apparently they're shite, i use SPD-sls and they've been great.
Would much prefer it with classic shaped bar though.
maybe, maayyyybe, white hoods... i'm not sure on that one.

Aren't campag pedals a hundred odd quid!? No chance. I was stretching the budget big time towards the end of this project as it is!
Re bars. Yes I think I'm with you on preferring the classic shape. But, I do find these very comfortable on the drops. Something to ponder on I suppose. Always nice to have little tweaks available to you.
Had a look for white hoods but couldn't find any. It was hard enough getting a new pair of black ones in the old style 8speed 'pointy' tip.

if it's a bike you're going to do alot a miles on then comfort is important, personnaly I think i find classic shape more comfortable... like the campione del mundo found those very comfortable.
is it a 60cm?
-
• #46557
Certainly hoping to do a fair few miles on yes. It's my first proper road bike.
When the bar tape needs replacing I might swap to a classic shape. Kicking myself a bit as they're cheap as on planet x sale at the moment.
It's a 64cm (im 6'4'')

Bought in 1979 for £30 in original chrome. Used for 10 and 25 mile mile time trails 1979-1981. PB 24.01 in 1981 aged 16 (48x16). Now aged 46, the chrome long rusted, a respray in british racing green and cream and last night 26.52 (48x15) after 30 years. Brought back many memories... can I get back down to the PB?? Apart from the frame the pedals and brake lever are the same. I have the original SR chainset but treated her to a new one.
is that you in the pic?

And we suggested, with various degrees of sarcasm, that he should start with an OTP. Nobody gets their ideal bike first time, so he might as well get on something which is ready to ride, since riding is the only way to find out what you really want from a bike.
Dunno, can have a good search around here and sheldon for tips, buy up parts on ebay, and classifieds here, ask the right questions and end up with a bike you're very happy with, and with a lot more character than an OTP, and for about the same money.

In three months' time. He could be riding by the end of the week if he got an OTP.
