  • These aren't a waste of money (unlike most £100 sets of track wheels). Just to get you rolling along.

    +1 they are awesome wheels for the money.

  • +2 Have them on my Pompino.

  • Buy Pistis Omega V's

    and lace to On-one large flange track-hubs

    this will look better imo...

  • You haven't read the brief.

    ;)

    (edit) No. I haven't read his ad. They're cheap. Do it. (edit)

  • They would be £5 more than your suggestion, non?

    I'd give Louis an old rubino if it made the difference! :P

  • Louis, glad you got that. I remember finding it, really nice ;)
    Get the wheels re-built by Broken_777. He's second to none.

  • whoah, thanks for the help guys. Gonna weigh up all the options. still got my old bike to roll on for now, so i'm gonna get what's best for the long run rather than a quick fix + empty my parts bin and try and try to sort out a few pennies more.

    omega V's look like they could be a winner... but no option to ever have a brake. wouldn't like to close that gate just yet.

  • What's the problem with braking on Omega Vs? They're not machined but that's hardly a problem, the anodising will come off pretty soon and it'll be just as good as a machined rim.

  • Are these handlebars Cinelli, or just from a random old town bike?

    I've used similar shapes, I really like them. It's tricky to find good brake lever position with them though.

    actually the bars are from a Moulton but the chrome was real pitted so the tape covered it up lovely & the lever feels pretty good where it is, shame it is bright orange tho

  • nefarious, i posted your bike in "Rat Bikes! Beaters! Frankenbikes!" by the way...

    Well, it is a beater.

    they don't look like they have a braking surface? are they not completely round?

    How bad was the puncture on your tubs? It's possible you could use sealant to fix it, like Vittoria Pit Stop.

  • its not even fully deflated a day later. i wonder if its just not holding the air very well? seems to hold it for a solid few hours at 110psi...

    i have tracked down a set of generic wheels off a bianchi pista for now for the road and il keep these for the track, so it should all be ok.

  • they don't look like they have a braking surface? are they not completely round?

    They're fine to brake on. Perhaps not 100% of the feel you get from a machined surface but not a problem at all.

  • ...Denton Cycles frame...

    lovely bike, the name however, is pretty suggestive...

    It could be a latex inner tube, most higher quality tubs come with these, although they normally hold pressure for a bit longer than 24 hours.

  • Had my Dawes Fireball resprayed and started putting it back together this evening, got scared getting the headset back on so off to LBS tomorrow, nothing new per sé other than colour and I got a custom headbadge. Because I was that way inclined...

    Bubblesworth is what I shall affectionately refer to it as.

  • that looks like a lovely big chunk'o'something under the paint on the top lug

  • Yeah, I think that's been there since I got it, you can also see a little dent just below and to the centre. It had surface rust around there and I didn't really take much notice of it, but since respray the eyes are drawn to the imperfections.

  • I love the headbadge

  • I like the idea of the hedgebadge, look great.

    I'm quite fed up of producing functional bike without any care about it's appearance, so I decided to pick up a French 26" wheel porteur bicycle, methinks it's all original.

    I'm going to try and polish it up, regrease bearing etc. add 650b rims instead of 26", Mafac racer brake etc., basically like this;

    With this especially;

  • very nice ed, love the saddle. when it's finished it might be pornworthy :)

  • That's the original paint scheme on the frame

    Nope, that's not what they did in the 80s.
    But I must admit that I quite like it.

  • that's precisely my intention, the saddle is an Ideale which is worse than Brooks, right now it have a Brooks B73 on it.

    Going to replace the awful brake lever with the VO version;

    A good cork grip too, they're superbly comfortable;

  • The paint is pretty knackered to be honest.

    honestly thought it was some sort of imitation varnished wood finish from a distance, oops
    nice frame all the same
