the railing also encourage driver to not worry about peds walking on the road and thus take less car.
removed railing - driver go slower and peds more aware.
we have a stupidly long railing on a bus stop island, that those who want to go to the bus stop will have to walk a long way round to get there, a lots of people hop over the railing to get there, and there's always close call due to driver going a little faster on that second and peds having a hard time getting over the last railing to get to the bus stop, I know this because it's outside my place of work.
