They're just tyres...if you ride smoothly, you should be fine. Unless they're heavily cut, you really will have problems getting them to work as they were intended. It's really difficult to get race compound road tyres hot enough to work as intended on the road. Unless they are actually HOT and properly sticky, decent road compounds are grippier.
You might also find they're a bit more unstable and they'll wear out in less than 1000miles. (no prob if they're free)
