• Yeah, sometimes it's better to use a '.' rather than a ';'.

  • You cannot stop me, not armed with the might of my repeating comma gun!

  • I went to a reading and questions and answers session with Hillary Mantel a couple of years ago where she said semi-colons were essentially for people who'd been to public school and were the punctuation equivalent of tonsils.

  • Well she's a fucking idiot then. They're a valuable tool in any writer's kit; and by writer, I mean anyone who puts pen to paper, or keystroke to monitor.

    Good point, well made;

  • Freedom, democracy and human rights vs cycle helmets in Australia
    http://freedomcyclist.blogspot.com/2011/05/our-democracy-our-rules-now.html

"No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment."

  • Helmets are for pussies.

  • Pussies are for helmets.

  • Helmets are for pussies.

That's only partly true, you can stick them in mouths and bums too.

  • I always wear my helmet I don't feel safe without it, but I understand that it's not for everyone..I do wince when I see someone without a helmet though :-)

  • I always wear my helmet I don't feel safe without it, but I understand that it's not for everyone..I do wince when I see someone without a helmet though :-)

Instead of wincing, I'd try keeping your eyes open. It's particularly dangerous cycling with your eyes closed.

At least you've got a helmet on.

  • I always wear my pants I don't feel safe without them, but I understand that it's not for everyone..I do wince when I see someone without pants though :-)

    Yes, that.

You're saying that, but I bet you've never really tried cycling with your eyes shut.

It's a very zen like experience- you have to totally rely on your other senses, it makes you flow with the traffic rather than riding in a stop/start fashion.

I think the problem is that only people who do it, who ride with their eyes shut every day, will really understand.

  • Oh really? I like you close my eyes and listen to music while riding fixed. Now *that *is Zen

  • I always wear my onion I don't feel safe without it, but I understand that it's not for everyone..I do wince when I see someone without a onion though :-)

    fixed.

Must be a nice feeling, feeling superior to others.

  • You have expertise in that area. Why don't you tell us what it's like?

  • I always wear my helmet I don't feel safe without it

Usually, somebody would ask whether you have considered cycle training. In this case, though, your educational deficit goes far beyond cycling. When you actually analyse the material difference to your safety which a helmet provides, you should realise that wearing a helmet should not make any perceptible difference to your feeling of safety. Whether you feel safe or not in general is up to you, but feeling different just because you're wearing a cycle helmet is misguided.

Hahaha I'll try ;-) thanks for the advice

  • Yes, that.

    Haha! :-p

I will once you get off that horse you're on.

  • Saw the crash on Sunday that Damn-Oh mentioned somewhere on the forum. Big impact to helmet, protecting the temporal lobe area. The material had cracked all the way through in 2 places, compressed by the impact, but still held together by the 'matrix' inside the polystyrene.

For the record, the injuries sustained did not include concussion or the onset of temporal lobe epilepsy (as happened to a friend who hit his head in the same place).

The injuries did include, however, collarbone broken in 2 places, a number of fractured ribs, cuts to knees and elbows, big loss of skin from back, top of thumb 'sanded off', and suspected punctured lung :(

  • Tell me more about this onion and pants safety system

  • Is this why the French wear them round their necks?

    Onions, not pants.

  • does anyone want to do my office work today?

I really cant be arsed with any of of it
