I've been doing bits of filming using my iPhone but am not satisfied with the internal mic so want to use an external. I've read lots on the web and it seems one needs a connecting cable to make it work - a 4-pole 'TRRS' male to 3-pole 'TRS' 3.5mm female, XLR or whatever your mic connection is. I'm not massively tech-savvy so this might be a simplistic description.

Several people using an external mic with their iPhone have recommended this mic so that's what I've bought: Audio Technica ATR Series Omnidirectional Condenser Lavalier Microphone - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Musical Instruments
Most of these people are in the US and buy this adapter to use with it: http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-iphone-2trs.htm
But I found this cable in the UK which looks identical: http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase16.5&prodID=B594904
The problem is it doesn't work, so I'm wondering if the wiring or componentry is different? Any ideas? Will I have to order one from the bloody US?!
Cheers
