For example I paid for the cranks with some Dremelling.
Dammits back street dental gaff?

Gone to set up the gears on my Dawes and that the nine speed chain doesn't want to shift between the front rings. Don't know if it's the chainrings (Stronglight Dural 52/42) or the front mech? I've swapped out the original Deore triple chainset for an Exage double. Anyone got any ideas? Oh yeah, I'm using a bar end shifter.

Cheers Jersey but the cable tension's all good and the limiting screws are set up right but the chain doesn't sem to want to transfer from the small ring to the big ring. It kind of climbs up on top of the teeth if that makes any sense. That's what makes me wonder if it's the chain rings as I'm not sure if they're 9 speed compatible. The chain does run on the ring okay when it's set in place.

Another thing to look at is the height and angle of the derailleur cage. I don't know if it makes much of a difference, but I usually set mine so the bottom of the cage sits about 2mm above the teeth of the big ring.
Bike tech is very primitive. A bit of trial and error should sort out the issue.

They're not a bio-pace chainset by any chance are they, in which case the chainrings are kind of egg shaped and i think i remember some of the older exage gear was, which i think meant they didn't work with any other groupsets from memory (what's left of it).

So if you manually place the chain on either ring it runs smoothly, and you can select the full range of gears on the (rear) cassette, but the front mech cannot make the chain move between the front rings?

I've seen that top of teeth thing when shifting on the front ring of a veloce chainset, but only half a dozen times in about a year, and it's solveable by backpedaling a couple of rotations. Not sure why it does it or why it would do it every time though...

This exactly.

This exactly.
Had this problem recently, ended up just fiddling with different heights / screws, sorted itself out in about 30 mins of tinkering. Never been a fan of front derauliiers.
On a different note, I never got to see your Strong Island bike at the exhibit, It was gone by the time I managed to look around. Got any photos of it finished?

ok so I just finished this. I'm really pleased with it but I'm sure the majority will hate it so, I presume this will be put in antiporn within the hour, unless you lads are slacking. The deep v's are to be replaced with mavic open pro cd's when the funds allow. Probably with in the next few months. The toe overlap is something crazy so unfortunately I'm gettin regular pedals w/o straps and a clamp on keirin brake. Also the clearence, WOW I've got 28mm gators on there and it's just so tight. I'm absolutely in love with the frame, when I got it was pretty much in mint and still is, hardly any scratches and no dings
really nice pantographed bits as well
antiporn here I come --------------->

I would prefer with some moustache or porteur bars.... otherwise think it's pretty nice! crank and hub envy... not anti at all!
dog doesn't look impressed though...

hah yeah he's a hard lad to please. I don't think it's anti, but you know how snobby people get when it comes to keirin builds

I don't get it, if you get different pedals your feet are still in the same position right? so toe overlap is not going to go away? also front wheel/downtube clearance looks scaaaaary

• #45446
It's the bars that I don't like. Or it could be those grips. Ther rest is nice though
-
• #45447
its not scary it's delicious. Not exactly, w/o toeclips i'll have the balls of my feet on the pedals as opposed to fully in the straps, also the clips are solid bits of metal and attached to and pedals so not flexable if they get caught, wheras my my feet are free moving so can just be pushed out the way if they hit the wheel. Don't know if I explained that right but basically my feet will be further back w/o straps

• #45448
looks good! the only thing i'd change is the ouries... i almost feel bad for beating you to those champs last night on adverts ;)
-
• #45449
haha yeah, this what they where for if I got them
-

razzle dazzle, just work with the toe overlap, small/track frame tend to have those.
Or get clipless pedal.
Ah, that makes more sense now. I was looking for a Centaur one to match the cranks.
The world of Romanian bike parts is a bit of a murky one for me I have to admit.
