yep just had my bike nicked with an abus and it was obviously super easy for the fukers with bolt croppers to get thro.
-
• #6278
Bad news, which abus was it?
-
• #6279
+1 abus do locks from about £2 to £100+ motorbike locks.
I think tbh if your in london and your bike could be worth more than £100 then you have to spend nearly that on a lock (£65), or pretty much its a time bomb until it does go :/

Posting this for a mate of mine:
Stolen from that veritable Shangri-la of bike thievery, Dalston outside the old music hall by Vortex, Bolyn Rd between 11-11:30 Mon 16th. Locked with an Abus.
Quote:
"It's a 51 cm Cannondale Synapse 2011 Tiagra. pit locks on front wheel, steel shiny toe clips (not brooks but copycat cheaper version), a specialised jet seat; a steel, Specialized water bottle holder that rattles annoyingly. its got 2 new tyres- one continental Gatorskin, one ultra Gatorskin. It's got bit of paint missing on the top tube.If anyone sees it please knock them to the ground and chop their hands off. I'm watching the websites but have seen from the threads that the thieves watch it too so in half a mind not to post this.
contact me if see it: 0 seven 9 seven 4 4 two 8 9 four 4
FUKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

This.
Since having a bike stolen (thankfully my first rubbish bike I had in London) my thinking is make it more difficult to steal than someone else's. Fahg + Mini Evo/Cable depending on where I am going or what I am doing.
Ball bearings glued in everything etc
-
• #6284
guys, im actually planning to glue ball bearings in every bolt holes, just one question, ' will that be a one-way road ? is there anyway to take those ball bearings out again ? ''
-
• #6285
Nail varnish remover or that type of thing does the trick
-
• #6286
Acetone, a couple of sharp safety pins and a tin of beer in the park.
It pays to get everything set up just right, I've always found that as soon as the glue dry s I get a niggling idea that the seat could go up or down by a couple of mm..

about an hour i go i watched a thief ride off on an expensive titanium hardtail MTB made by DEAN in canada.
was coming out the applestore and out the corner of my eye saw somebody jump on to a bike and ride off, was not sure if he had stolen it but by the time i saw him reach round to the rear stay and pull a very puny cable lock off and stuff it in his pocket he was already 100yds up the road.
hung around and waited for the owner who was obviously gutted to lose his bike. even went for a walk up around the end of wigmore st in case he had stopped to go over his stolen bike.i don't have details of the bike but it's a ti hardtail and DEAN frames are quite rare, if you see it anywhere then pm me and i'll pass the details on to the owner.

Sorry to hear of your loss bectic. These ^ locks 'look' pretty solid don't they? I had one a while ago and it wasn't until doing some research that I realised the number of bikes that have been locked up with them that have unfortunately been stolen. They are very easy to cut with bolt croppers despite looking relatively beefy - don't be fooled.
Please read this thread for more info on locks that work http://www.lfgss.com/thread17938.html

if you google for the cheapest price on a fagheddaboudit and go into evans, they will price match it. cost me £50

My mate's rear SS wheel was taken off her bike last night. It was locked (Kryptonite NY) outside one of the Vietnamese restaurants on the South end of Kingsland Road.
Silver System Ex to black Open Pro, freewheel, no fixed cog on opposite side. Not much chance of it turning up, but the only distinguishing things are it's 36h and there's a chance I would have initialled/dated the rim tape after I built it a couple of years ago.
...will pay for return, thanks for reading...

My mate rushed into bank on highbury islington bike by door turned his back for 2 seconds someone grabbed it and run out he gave chase and caught him on the roundabout chinned him, got away caught him again but guy ended up getting away no one helped?
My mate was gonna chase after him but then realised he had left his bag in the bank which caused a security alert!
Least he got his bike back and the thief got a smash!!

Hahahaha,that makes me happy.
Could start some kind of anti cycle theft vigilante force.Few weeks back while near bow station saw a grou of kids with hand fulls of wheels and seatposts; however didn't exactly have things on my side with 10+ of them, 1 of me and no phone so couldn't call call in the rozzers, guess they must have just raided an entire bike rack in broad daylight and enmasse
My red Jamis Ventura Sport stolen today from my garden shed in Putney. Bought this bike in the US and I dont think there are too many about although Evans are now selling Jamis bikes. Trying to find a photo of it. Has black saddle and black handlebar tape. 8 speed double chainring. Shimano mtb clipless pedals. Cops say they are getting a lot of calls around this part of London on stolen bikes. Keep your stuff safe.
