I'm a full nights sleep down this week after working all night Monday.
I have scabby knees, strained quads, and a deep bruise to my right shin after a rugby tournament.
I have been unable to do any running for a whlie, as Mrs Furry has had her eyes lazered, and cant look after the kids.I have a half-marathon on Saturday.
Shite.

The worse for me is missing markers. I see my 1km split approach 5min and I start pushing myself to go faster At 5:30min I realise I missed the marker, and need a ly down.
yeah, been there too
They're already on my to-do list.
I've also got an excercise where I lie on my side bend my upper leg and rotate it upwards using just the medeus muscle.
It's cramptastic fun.
^ great stretch, when using I do 20 slow short lifts, then lift and hold to exhaustion at the end. Fun, in a bashed elbow kinda way...

Did a tentative 10km last night. Felt slow, tired, and heavy for 8km. Then managed to find a bit of spring for the last 2km, which made me feel more positive about saturdays half. Within 30mins of finisnig my shin injury flared up big time though. strong sharp pain above my right ankle. Limping today.
Shite.

I see you got the same card as I did on your birthday.
"Congratulations on being mid-30. Now do triathlons."

2nd run of the week, didn't feel as strong or fast, but managed to run further, and have started doing some faster paced sections as I come to the end of my 4k, feels nice to be out of breath after a run.
legs don't ache as much, my calves seem fine, now its my achilles tightening up and aching, and getting some stitch like aches in my side, but I'm assuming, its my body getting used to the new exertions.probably do another run sunday morning and see how that goes..

Probably should have checked earlier. But I've been running on this all week. No wonder I'm in pain. Was kicked just above the ankle on Saturday.
Ice + rest = OK for half marathon on saturday?

^what he said... get a few tins and cover your foot up to an inch or so above the injury then let it soak for about 2 hours.

Started running for weight loss 6 days ago..... I fucking hate it, to be honest, but it works..... 20 mons a day plus much less bread than I usually have and I've shipped a little over half a stone.... My moobs have nearly gone too, to leave pecs again.... It's nice that I have no niggling injuries for a change. Last fame of the season tomorrow should sort that though!

Just went out for my first run in ~7 years. Managed less than a mile before I was knackered. How can I cycle 126 miles in a day but not manage a mile running?!
I guess perseverance is the thing, right? Keep thumping away at it until I can run longer distances?
-
• #1269
Set out slower next time, maybe even a run / walk repeat split for a while, reduce the walk each session until you run none stop. Enjoy :)

went ok, thanks. Basically did 5min kms the whole way. Meant I took 1:42 though which is a bit poo.
Still, could barely walk on Thursday, so I should be happy.Did a further 16km offroad today. Now I really can't walk.:)

I've just got back from my second run - 1.1 miles. Pretty poor, but I'm going to keep trying.
Thing is, a colleague started giving me grief for only running a mile. I said I'd kick his arse on a bike, he asid it was easy with the help of a machine, and I said we should do a race; part run, part bike, winner has shortest summed time.
Now, what distances are fair? I can hardly run, but even a novice cyclist can move fairly quickly.
Help?!

Matt - tell your colleague to do one, and forget the race (for now at least). Also forget concerning yourself with distances and do everything on a time basis for now. It'll make things much easier, believe me.
Without wanting to push you from LFGSS to another forum, this place has everything you need to know about running, and lots you don't need to know.
Here's a real "starting out" article from their beginners section... the forum is useful, but UTFS ok ;)

Good luck & let us know how you get on.

Cheers RHB, I took your advice about setting out slower this evening, and it was much easier, even though I felt I was going really slowly. It took ages to pass pedestrians!
Will think about telling him to do one, but I fear it may get competitive at work tomorrow...
Sounds drunk.
