Is it the grass roots that are paying for the Olympics? I'm sure the world championships are almost entirely watched by the grass roots. The Olympics is a chance to increase the number of people interested enough in a sport to call themselves grassroots!
As a reward for hours of unpaid work and dedication?
I meant grass-roots as in at grass roots level, I said all sports because I meant "all sports" including soccer and more the more popular sports....they all rely on keen and dedicated volunteers at some point, whether the youngsters and amateurs they foster become champions or not.
By far the biggest audience will be on TV, new interest for cycling will not be affected by who gets tickets and interest generated outside the grass-roots of any sport will be identical no matter whose bums are on the seats....
I'd much prefer to see the Dave Creaseys of this world (RIP) sitting front row than a corporate knob, and I'd be interested to know just how little the ticket revenue for the Pringle will contribute to the overall budget anyway....
Seriously why?
