I've managed a few thousand happy miles on 1970s dura ace... has proved very reliable. Only change was more modern brakes rather than the ineffective mafacs. 1x5 could work, or you can sneak on a 6 speed freewheel while noones looking.That with some nice porteurs, a brooks and matching grips... mmmm (first time i ever suggested a brooks..) would a hub gear not involve adding braze ons/clamps?
