The book in question is actually David Copperfield. I'm not sure he mentions the street by name, but its location is described. Lower Robert Street is the last remaining one of a number of streets that ran under the Adelphi. Most have been converted to cellars, backfilled, etc. Lower Robert St is the only street with a vaulted roof in London. And it's way cool!
I had a suspicion that it was around there but never got round to having a proper look (not even on google). A bit of Durham Street, which would have been similar, has been preserved and is now used as a lecture theatre by the RSA (under which it ran)
