We do have rather crap transport police in the UK, actually we barely had any.
Ed, transport police are very different from traffic police--the former look after security around transportation systems (rail, airports, etc.), the latter police road traffic. And once again, those few traffic police we do have are actually generally considered to be very good--they're just largely limited to collision investigation as they don't have the numbers to do much enforcement, which is therefore largely carried out by other officers. I know that what you're trying to say is that having so few officers makes traffic policing overall inadequate, but what you're actually doing is insulting the officers.
