Practice proped against a wall first.
Then in a car park or quiet road.
All clip-in pedals are designed to allow you to pull up without unclipping. The first time you start to topple your brain will tell you to pull up to unclip. We've all done the topple (me with my son in a child seat).
I've bought loads of stuff from shiny bikes. Had good luck with them. Not Time pedals though. I currently run CB Quattros (fixed), CB Candys (SS), BeBop Stainless (commuting), and Look Keo max (road).
The Crank brothers system feel natural to me. But the Bebops look after my knees.
