What is a 'what was that?!!' gesture?
open arms, palms facing upwards with a shrug?
close enough to the "come on then, I'll take you all on" gesture.I think you have it there. Case closed.

Heh, I found it ironic that your dad was a Hell's Angel and you decided to not follow in his footstep and become a computer geeks.
funnily enough that's exactly what I did too in the exact same situation.

My dad was a hells angel in his younger years.
This is the hells angels at the Bath festival in 1970, my dad is the young lad on far left, bottom row
he wasn't still in the Angels when I was born. but he's remained a biker. and then in the 90's he was also a guardian angel...
so he kind of did both ends of the spectrum.

My mum was a biker and used to hang around with the Hells Angels when she was 17.
I'm so lame compared to my mum :(

I really dislike the amount of victim blaming going on in this thread, especially in response to the apparent involvement of "lovely" Hells Angels. Should we stop showing any response to other road users, or in fact any person, breaking laws or social norms in fear of bringing intimidation and violence onto ourselves, or receive blame from peers that clearly this has been brought upon yourself.
Whatever happened, it seems pretty obvious the bikers went beyond was inexcusable behaviour.

Hear hear! I've been mildly surprised by some forum responses to my original post from the doubting thomases to the conspiracy cranks --
I just wonder what people would have said if the post began "my neighbour was knocked off his bike by a van when he complained it had rlj"?
I'm just sayin...

van drivers don't pick fights with irrelevant and annoying flies. Your mate must have done something that caused offence.
The vast majority of Van drivers are mild mannered and middle-aged, only the younger lot are likely to engage in a fight, and even then they know there's a risk to it so will only do so if triggered by someone being particularly confrontational and abusive.
Disclaimer: My father is a van driver and has been for 40 years. I've been to rallies when much younger, and I never saw any of them needlessly get violent. They're a perfectly reasonable lot and don't differ greatly to the culture of this here cycling community.

You guys aren't cool...

Yeah, I wonder why on earth you'd stick your nose in to anyone else rljing at all, whether car, mobile or cycle. Why would you give a toss, unless you are a busybody tool?
It depends if you are the one who has a green light or not, no?

hmmmm....come to think of it my mate sometimes smiles when we meet and puts his arm out -- I used to think he was just being friendly and wanted to shake hands....but now I'm not so sure.
Better to be safe than sorry, so next time we meet I'll drop him to the ground with a groin kick before he can get his "smile" and "hand shake" in

no hospital visit required
What a load of bollocks. At the start of the thread they were trying to gouge his eyes out? If 4 people beat you up, you are going to need hospital treatment regardless of them being bikers. So what next, they weren't actually Hell's Angels they were 4 chavs on scooters?
Do you read the Daily Mail? I'm sure they must have a forum where this sort of sensationalist crap fuelled by lazy stereotypes and hearsay would go down a storm.
-
• #119
But if they were 4 chavs on the scooters they wouldn't receive as much sympathy as Hell's Angels.
Wake fucking up. They are a gang, only on bikes. I used to buy drugs from them. Nice, cool guys, but you don't mess with them.Tony Sopranos is a nice chap too (albeit fictional).

apologism and support of the angels on this thread is hilarious...
they are hardly victims, they choose to pepetrate their image and happily wallow in their notoriety, they proudly call themselves "Hells Angels", they didn't name themselves Heavens Angels, now did they?
They are just idiots with identity issues that most people grow out of by age 14, much like football hooligans they psychologically haven't taken that final step out of the school playground, they probably believe that the population at large hold some sort of reverence for them (some here obviously do) and don't realise that in reality most view them as losers and insignificant wankers with a childish name for their overgrown kiddies gang.

I'm not apologising for their behaviour, I'm throwing doubt on the accuracy of the story as originally told.
The basis for doing so is just twofold from my perspective:
1) A new member whom no-one really knows posted a second-hand story.
2) My own personal experiences of people in the group the story targets is in opposition to the portrayal in the story (of an unprovoked attack on an even-mannered gentleman). If some people (be they motorcyclists, Hells Angels or anyone) truly kicked the shit out of someone (which doesn't even sound true, no hospital visit needed so not even broken skin involved), then of course it should be condemned.
But right now, we have the hearsay of one new member without it being credibly backed up in any way, standing against the experiences of several long established members including myself whose experiences stand in stark contrast.
So it's in no way victim blaming or being apologists for anyone who might have done something, it's very heavily questioning the truthfulness and accuracy of the told story.
The second post asked the right question, what are the police doing? But as far as we know, the police haven't been approached. Even though E&C is heavily covered with cameras and it would be incredibly easy to trace them using such footage.
In fact, as far as we know the only reaction is a guy goes onto a cycling forum to jump and shout. Well, that's an effective way of dealing with things as we all know.
Is this resolved yet?

Arf arf!
I said all the ones I'd met were splendid fellows. I almost went back to edit to say that group is not a large one, and not necessarily representative, but I get bored with my caveating and overly defensive waffling. I also said that they were fighty, maybe that should exclude them from the splendid fellow club. :)
