  • ^ nice Nuclear Winter Bike™ you've got there.

Clearance is the issue by the sounds of it. Not sure that lovely Geekhouse could manage 42c. Something like a Karate Monkey would let you run tyres that big, and full guards to keep the worst of the salt off the steel.

A big ol' touring frame like the Long Haul Trucker and the Paul Hewitt SE will have lower BBs and long chainstays. I know the Hewitt is amazing in slippy conditions, the geometry is so sorted. No discs though.

The framset is on EBay at the mo. £199 FF+HS.

I would decribe the frames qualities as 'business like'. The real ride quality coming from the spot on geometry. But that could be a fit thing. Here it is in 'summer mode' (well summer for west coast Norway).

My current thinking is to transfer all the parts to a Salsa La Cruz or similar frameset. Keeping everything but the brake calipers.

Is there any reason I cant buy standard MTB mechanical disc's and run them on a CX frame with V-brake compatible levers?

  • BTW is it poor form to post your own bike on this thread?

I obviously dont think my workhorse bike is porn.

  • nah...
I posted mine- like the narcissistic bastard I am.

  • I like this, but don't think it's porn, so goes here.

  • Weird levers. Any ideas what they are?

    Weird.
    Weird Levers are Weird.

  • Campag I think. Never liked them myself. Always been a Shimano man

    Werd.

  • What an excellent place to put a bottle..../sarcasm]

    sigh

  • ^ There are many better places.

  • Not sure what's the problem is here, my bottle cage is also on the underside near the BB (amongst other).

  • I don't see the point of it being somewhere that you can't reach.

    spare innnit

when will you be drinking three at the same time

probably used for carrying fuel I'd have thought, which you don't need until you stop (unless you're planning some kind of a crazy cooking adventure).

  • like eddie said - extra bottle of water.

this is a touring bike, not a road bike, you do not have to access your water while in motion.

  • Blackburn lowrider rack + Caradice make this good for light, flat touring duties. If only I could find some of the anti-swing clips for the old Karrimor bags that hook on perfectly...

This has also been very functional through the winter and spring, wheels now being replaced with 105 hubs on open pro rims:

  • Loving the load capacity of the Moulton - didn't feel any weight on the back while riding.

  • has that cannondale got STI's and a downtube shifter?
