And the cool email he sent me...
I'll ship monday. Dont worry, its going be nicely packed.
-
• #4
so it was the shippers error?
can you not just return it to the vendor, am assuming he charged you for the shipping, full refund and find another frame?
-

Shit, bad luck slimjim. A nasty reminder to have insurance for shipping. Would be good to get it fixed, looks like it is/was/will be again a decent frame.
-
• #6
shit, that must've been thrown about a fair bit for that to happen

what is the frame made of?
i'd have expected a fresh break to be a little shiny, not so dull in colour
-

If it is a steel frame, a good TIG welder will be able to weld it using mild steel wire.
Please note "good" TIG welder.

I thought this, was advertised as SLX. It's far to light to be carbolite or anything like that. And looking closer, it is shiny.
I think its going to be insurance job + new frame.
Any one know any 'good' tig welders.
Its a BEAUTIFUL frame... Zeus dropouts, cut out lugs, columbus logo engraved into fork crown.
AAAHHHHHH!

Bad luck, feel for you. Also, is there a hairline crack in the seat lug (at the typical place for this kind of lug)?

• #11
No, just the photo...

it will polish out

see if ted can fix it for you
-
• #15
Ted any good?
-
• #16
Make sure you give it a proper once over....
I'd be tempted to say send it back and be done with it- cos the fixing is going to be a pain in the arse.
(as muttley says below me)
but if you can get a full refund from the package company then thats grand...Also- feel for you.

this is true, looks like there is rust inside the tubes, so must have been an old crack.
send it back -

**Postal insurance WIN!

I have all of my money back :)Still got the frame too.
Can anyone recommend a welder who can have a reasonable bash at fixing it?

I've only hear good things.
You need to check the rust though... probably time for some nitromors action and stuff. -
• #23
what rust?

My Gangsta fork had some bolt holes filled and cantilever brake mounts put on by ST (the previous owner had it done) and it looks like a top notch job. Not seen anything else by him however so just going on that! Cheers, T

wow that turned from holy fuck to money back in 1 day!
I've been looking for over a year for a new frame that I like and today it arrived in the post. It's gorgeous.
Started to build it up and... No, you can't be fucking serious, the right hand seat stay has sheared where it meets the seat tube...
I think the happened in transit. The package was insured to the money shouldn't be a problem.
Just livid that i finally find a frame and it's fucked.
Rang up BJ and they said 65 for a new seat stay, but then I need money for it to be couriered and a respray too. About £170 in total.
Seems a lot, could almost buy a new frame for that. Is there a cheaper option? Weld? Would this work? (Obv not but worth a shot)
Could then use this frame as a hack.
Thanks,
Jim
