  • Yeah well ...

they are too cowardly to actually say that shit in the thread. They are obviously some loser ... so fuck em. They were probably worried about me ripping their shit to shreds.

  • Exactly, they're coward, another reason why you shouldn't waste your energy on them.

  • You are killing the fun though.

  • Cowardice and waste of energy is what this forum is all about...more please...

I started the thread ... I can kill it.

    Do you want some? ;-)

  • Exactly, they're coward, another reason why you shouldn't waste your energy on them.

You need to call em out though ... All this "being better bollox" is a crock of shite.

  • You're the first person I've felt the need to put on ignore. Well done

  • Thx ... and you are won't be the first I will put on ignore.

  • Another good advice, I can't says I hasn't notice this with my slow and fast bike.

It only work if both your bike don't have computer though.

Yes ... it purely about your perception of how fast you are going.

You end up racing yourself. You get faster on the "slow" bike which causes you to become faster on the "fast" bike which means you try harder on the "slow" bike ... and rinse and repeat.

  • I was mildly annoyed (enough to commit this to the internet at least and bore you senseless) by a geared rider this morning who insisted on 'racing' me.

I've just massively reduced my GI so I'm spinning like a madman at the moment (I had sore knees) so much so I can only get to about 45kmph before I spin out whereas with the previous GI I could do that easily.

Anywway cycling to work this mornign I went past geared chap who then responds in the backkground with a clunking of gears and an effort to sit on my wheel. This goes on for some time until he sees his opportunity and decides to 'fly' by me (I say fly by I was probaly only doing 35kmph max and he was probably doign 40). Of course his max effort lasted for about 50 yards at which point he slows down and I pass him again (as I maintained the same speed). This went on for the next 5 miles or so until the effort of doing 35/40 kmph broke him and he dropped off to a crawl.

I'm all for trying to keep up with a faster rider - as it's fun, pushes you and is a bit of extra exercise but I just think the constant stop start of nodder racing is pointless. That and you look like a melt when you eventually bonk, especially when the rider you were racing is neither racing nor putting much effort into it.

The only good thing is it's reminded me how fun it is to spin rather than mash a bigger gear.

  • Had been off the bike for a couple of weeks while away, decided to head out for an easy 55 miler along the canal on the mtb to loosen the legs up. So there I am, cruising along at a steady pace singing along with greenday when out of nowhere someone on a posh mtb overtakes, I think ah well, I am happy at this pace, then, le glance...

I think fuck it let's see what he got, so shift up and catch him then sit a few lengths behind him... so, this is still an easy pace I'm thinking, glad I've got someone setting pace. After about half a mile this guy is visually struggling to maintain the pace, this makes me laugh a little so I reach down for my bottle and sit back sipping my juice as we turn into headwind, he checks his shoulder see me chilling and gets out of the saddle to power down... so pace is up, but still easy going for me, and he's straining now. About a mile of trying to lose me he ends up pulling over and stopping.

I think this was more satisfying than over taking him outright ha.

    Beautiful work.

  • Not big and not clever. Has it ever occurred to you that some people might just be going about their business and not actually trying to prove anything?

  • If this ^ is true then why would the person feel the need to go so hard that he has to stop for a rest?

  • That's not the issue. Why bother drafting them or trying to race them in the first place. Its flipping annoying.

  • As Malaysian said "glad to have someone setting the pace" Simply using someone as a pace bod is normal. It's the person's reaction which is daft. I guess M only 'raced' as the person was making such an obvious effort to leave him behind.

Are you sure he didn't just want a chat and phone number?

  • yep

  • I was burnt up a couple of weeks back by someone with a worse bike - that's not what I paid for!

  • i quite often have someone drafting me on my commute home.. sticking old pump thro their front wheel, usually loses them though..

  • i find that lifting my bottom from the saddle and breaking wind communicates my contempt for nodder wheelsuckers pretty well.

  • ^we cant all do it at will

  • if we managed to corner him though..

  • amend my post to "in an ideal world, one of my superpowers would be the ability to break wind at will. especially in the presence of nodder wheelsuckers"
