God that brings back memories.... my first build, fixed then geared. I actually saw some guy riding the frame on my way to work. I'd say drill a hole and mount one of these: rather than this: That's because I think it will be cheaper, easier to source, and look better on a GH. Not because I had any problems with mine.

cool cool... need to do a bit of thinking as my BB seems reluctant to leave the frame (at least its UT so I can always fit a campag chainset)
1x9 is tempting. Might send it to a Framebuilders and ask for some extra brazeons...
