Joe take your own bike, all the american airlines will force you to pay a fee for travelling with a bike, except maybe southwestern, even though they don't send it to oversize baggage and it comes down the same luggage carousel as the other bags.
as per johnny, take bike, ride around, enjoy, rentings just a hassle you don't need.. -

Joe, Corny is right (again). I hired a bike last year which was fine as it would have been difficult for me to take my own as I was travelling around. It cost about the same as it would to fly my own out and was not comfortable, didn't fit very well etc etc. If you are just going there and back and have access to a bike box, do it!

My girlfriend is off to Ny on February 21st and has just found out the friend she was supposed to be staying with has had to leave the state due to a family emergency. Does anyone know any cheap but nice places to stay in Manhattan?

weird, I just got back from there today. I stayed in the staybridge suites, on west 40th. Was 119 usd a night, inc breakfast. new place, quite nice... it's next to the bus terminal though, which is a bit shitty but short stroll to Times Sq etc..

Craigslist it. Safe way of renting a cheap room (and sometimes whole apartment for a period of time).

For how many nights is she staying?

Dunno how cheap and basic you want, but I once stayed in the Central YMCA, which is a coupe of mins walk from Times Square. It's basic but fine, and they have security to keep most of the fruitloops out. Was fine for a few days sightseeing whilst backpacking.

Anyone here living in BK? I'm moving to Arion Place in north Bushwick/east Williamsburg between Bushwick Ave and Broadway. Fancy a ride?

So I've done a search and not come across something that I think cover everything about new york...
So I'd like people to share there favourite things about the place.
Hotels,Places to eat,Things to do,Anything really.
I'll start with my favourite place to eat when I go.
Katz's Deli, 205 East Houston St, Manhattan.
The Pastrami on Rye for $15 bucks is probably my favourite thing to eat any time I go.Things to do, well depending the weather I think Central Park for a stroll around would relax anyone in the sun.
And the Natural History Museum is one of the places I go every time Im there, so much to see and a easy way to kill a day...
Hope thats started it off,I'll add more as others do and maybe compile a list of things once I think we have enough.

there is a thread somewhere on here, recommends the old carlton arms hotel http://www.carltonarms.com/
stayed there earlier in the year, and it's very good value for money if you dont mind scumming it a bit
but is it real...?

This thread is different- it's for those people who wouldn't be uncool enough to do touristy stuff.
joe. take your own bike. ride everywhere. go the direction that feels right. everything else is someone else's bullshit. you know what to do. enjoy
