On One Pompino owners...

I'm 6'1 and ride a XL, but would never usually ride the largest size in a range. I tried a L and didn't get on with it, I think because the TT length was 55.5, and that combined with a relaxed ST angle (meaning the saddle has to be a bit further fwd) meant I had v little reach to the bars. EDIT: to answer your other questions: you don't need any special headset as the canti hanger is like a separate headset spacer that fits on the steerer. One of the bikes in this thread as a road fork so yes, that would work too.

or do I have to get one with this bit to rout the cable

Better still get one of these:

It takes the steerer tube out of the load path for the brake, so you don't suffer from brake chatter, and it provides a better cable route which eliminates the tight bend required if you don't have any additional spacers between the top of the headset mounted hanger and the stem

I'm 5"6 and it may be a smidge too big, she's 5'10 and maybe a smidge too small. They're set up for polo though but you can get a good idea of fit.

Bought this off the forum, it was advertised as a large but turns out it's bigger than horatio's XL!?! Love it to bits and it fits fine, if only I could somehow change the ratios via some kind of futuristic gear changing system this would be the most awesome city bike I've ever owned... ;]

That's defintely an XL, it's fine though as you run a short stem and flat bar on it instead of drop.

AFAIK, there's no pompino bigger than XL, maybe H's an L?

not sure on the white rim, just bought it because it was a good deal, will probably go with silver and rebuild it. Can't conplain though, cycles like a dream, dead happy with it

and by the way the white rim isn't staying, it's going to be silver. Apart from that in my opinion it's great. And I have bog standard canti breaks for it, im just replacing waiting to replace the white b43 with a machined one, until then it's brakeless, but with double straps

Cos you'd be better running Vs with those bars. More choice of lever and shit.

+slightly cleaner lines, easier to set up, more power.

I'm a smidge off 5'10" & have had 3 Pompinos - 2 51cms & a 54. The 51s were a better fit for me - ETT works out about 54cm.

I'm looking for some advice. Building up an On-one Pompino to use as a bit of an all rounder. It will need to do a cross London commute of 20 miles/day 2-3 times a week and double as an occasional training bike too (winter trainer/commuter come the bad weather). Planning to have a spare set of wheels one for the commuting and a ligher weight set for the road training. Will be running it fixed/free (never ridden fixed before but intend giving it a go but want the option to swap back).

I have been looking at chainsets but not really sure what to go for, any recommendations for a reasonably lightweight but durable chainset that would fit the bill and what type of bb to pair it with - the Pompino takes a 68mm english threaded but again not sure of the options and the pro's and con's of any options including what to consider in terms of chainline etc...

The type of use you mention is going to be too much for the kind of chainsets you can easily look at online or in bike shops. I'd recommend going the custom route, and getting something made up in diamond for superior strength and longevity (plus decent resale value).

get a pair of sugino 75's

djm778 - perhaps On-One external bearing crankset incl. BB for 125. Anything more exotic, you could call the guys at On-One and ask about compatability.

I've been using a miche BB and crankset. Chainline is fine with on-one rear wheel + shimano freewheel/EAI track cog.

Turn it into a polo bike.

Ok that's the third time my cranks have come loose while riding. At least the NDS crank arm didn't actually fall off this time..
