i was cleaning all the winter dirt and grease off my rear hub (dia compe) with de-greaser and after popping my wheel back on my bike with a new chain it started making this horrific semi-grinding rattle noise. it happens for the most part only when i push down on my pedals, and only when biking forwards. especially when pushing down hard the rattle becomes very loud, and high pitch almost like a creak. and i can also feel vibrations of the rattle through the pedals as well. if i take my feet of the pedals and let the bike "coast" the sounds goes more or less away.
i tried switching to a different wheel and the noise went away, so it definitely seems wheel related. and as far as i can tell the sound seems to be coming from the hub area
i thought that maybe i got degreaser in the bearings and messed them up, and the wheel didnt spin very smooth and felt dry so i had new bearings put in at my LBS.
i just got the wheel back today, popped it back on, and lo and behold that f*cking horrific sound is still there
as far as i can tell there is nothing loose or rubbing
i need the wheel for tomorrow and my LBS is closed till tuesday so i cant go there for help
anyone have an idea what it could be? im going absolutely nuts here
