I worked in Saudi over 10 years ago,it was truly awful and soul destroying, despite various subsequent offers I refused to go back. The expats I met there where a sad group of people.
Dammits attitude is very reminiscent of the attitude of the back room/home staff I had to deal with at the time. Little idea of the realities, and absolutely no intention of trying to understand them. To Dammit I am sure you are a nice bloke, this is not a go at yourself, but the tone of your post struck an unpleasant note. I will quantify my post by saying that I worked for more than 10 years as an expat and regardless of location, the support received from our UK offices was lacking in it's understanding of the real hardships of it's staff on a daily basis.
