Two weeks ago while I was out in Suffolk on a century ride I was enjoying some rapid descents down the few short but steep hills you have round there on the essex border. I was rattling down one at 28ish only to spot a two inch deep covering of sand at the bottom of the hill.
Too late to slow down, I tried to make myself as upright and balanced as possible. I ended up doing a front wheel skid at speed through the sand and somehow staying upright. My heart was properly in my mouth and I could feel my heart beating in my ears afterwards.
I stopped to look round and see what sort of tracks I had left in the sand. Both my front and rear wheel were at an angle as I skidded through at one point...must have somehow managed to correct it! BIt of a rush...
Oh and another oh shit moment...
