About half a year ago, I'm rehearsing with my band, so have the mobile on mute. But while having a break, I notice 4 missed calls from the missus. She knows I'm busy, so must be important. Calling her back, she says that a fucking taxi reversed onto her! I ask if she's ok, she says yeah, but I know she might be in shock, concussion, terrible images rushing through my head... Admittedly, she is a bit happy-go-lucky, so I'm always sorta' worried about her riding in traffic. Blood rushed to my head, that was a huge OH SHIT moment, I tell you. Knowing I'm miles from her, and couldn't be there sooner than 15 mins, and that only with light traffic and RLJing so can't do much anyways. She's crying over the phone, saying the cabbie gave her some verbal and also keeps asking if that's not her fault and if I'm not angry at her. That's probably because I used to scold her for not being observant and careful enough while riding. So I had to really make sure and ask a million times whether she's hurt and comfort her.
Later, when she calmed down, it turned out she was waiting behind that taxi on a right turn-only lane at a red light, when the driver suddenly started reversing (apparently to let a hooker off [sic!]), first slowly, so she was trying to get out of the way, but then the fucker accelerated into her front wheel. Must've seen her in the rear view mirror directly behind him when reversing in broad daylight, but still kept going on. She burst into tears, some other hookers (yup...) kept shouting "the fuck are you doing, there's a cyclist behind you!" and actually got into an argument with the passenger, who then also shouted at my gf some bullshit about her supposedly being on the wrong side of the road or some similar.
Fortunately, she was 100% intact, only I had to replace the bent stem (a very long one - Dutch bike).
Probably sounds pretty trivial, but I swear I was so fucking angry and scared at once. An "oh shit oh fuck oh shit oh jesus wtf" moment.
