I'd like to do the recce. is there anyone who knows the postcode of Brick Lane Polo courts and whether or not the train from Cambridge will accept bikes? Thanks.
By the way CM tonight was mental.
Edit: Missed the recce - still don't know where the polo courts are.

Polo courts are on Brick Lane just north of Bethnal Green Road

Sorry, you may have got the wrong day. I tried to get to CM last night but ended up missing it by abbout 10 minutes. Couldn't decide where it might have gone. Was it mental=good or mental=horrible? -

Thanks. It was great! Unbelieveably nice weather. Great route, apart from the busyish road til we're out of Epping Forest. Hope that next weekend we can all 'encourage' some good group riding, perhaps into smaller bunches of ten or fifteen. Once that Aroad bit is out of the way the route is mmmmmarvellous. Can't believe I've never ridden there before (aprt from the bit that is also on the Roydon TNRC route), it's such lovely country. Now praying for lovely weather for the 3rd.

Really looking forward to it. Hopefully have my bb rebuilt by then. My Carradice cadet has arrived, it's fecking huge! Glad I didn't go for a Nelson or Camper. Plenty of room for flapjack, tools and pipe tobacco. Brushes against the legs which is most annoying, a support may be in order.

Maybe try using it with a rack, if you don't have a bag support thing. Attach the seatpost-loop downwards to the rack (extend with toestrap). Helps get the bag away from your legs.

I like that idea, will def do that on my Surly.
My Mason has no rack however, so I think I'll invest in a support. £28 for a bit of bent wire is insane though.
Just handwased the bag, it's about 20 years old according to the seller. After removing the wooden dowel it took 2 hot soapy scrubs before the water stopped turning brown and a further 2 rinses to finish the job off. Towel dried as best as poss and put on the airer. Lord knows how long it'll take to dry out again though. -

Also, should I give it a quick scrub over with Barbour wax or similar?

AFAIK, not supposed to put any sort of wax on a carradice as it can stop the fibres from expanding when wet (this is how they stay waterproof).
actually - http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php?page_id=accessories
and - from another forum
"I really wouldn't recommend washing as this would damage the waterproof properties but if you really feel that you must wash them, use warm water and soap (NOT detergent). After washing, they will need to be reproofed using either Granger's or Barbour's reproofing wax ( or we sell it online). To reproof, the bags must be completely dry and free from surface dirt. Warm the tin to soften the wax then apply to the bags using a clean, dry cloth (put extra on the seams). Finally, blow with a hot air gun or hairdryer and this will make the wax melt into the fabric. You will probably need 1 x 50ml tin of wax per pannier.
Kind regards
Margaret

Used detergent. Oh well, sure it won't kill it. It was proper filthy after all.
Will wax it in a few days, hopefully it'll look better off for a good once over. -

noticed this lot on the common today, didn't seem to be very many but at least decent weather compared with the big summer ride which always seems to be on a ridiculous baking-hot tarmac-melting kinda day...getting excited about next week. planning how many biscuits to bring, and what to wear - depending on the weather I might wear a frock! but I don't have good shoes atm... is there time to acquire some? I shouldn't really... could be painful... hmm...

Having just destroyed my legs last week doing the moguls while skiing, what sort of pace will this be at ? I got over taken all morning by nodders... damn legs just wouldn't do anything!

At least, I'm hoping it will be.
I'll be doing a ride on Saturday so by Sunday I'll probably be barely able to move and anything >10mph will kill me

are you doing bristol 100? still haven't decided whether to or not...
I'd be up for the reccy, looks like an awesome day tomo. What time are we meeting at Brick Lane Courts?
Have we got a final route so I can put it in the Garmin?
