If indeed there is a difference in thickeness and is quite substantial, it will distort the movement of the ball, i.e. increased curvy passes & plenty of movement when the ball is in the air (banana shot?)
I don't know what wizardry you are talking of, but the ball does have an inconsistency in the wall at the "bobble" part. You can see it in profile and you can feel it when you draw your finger across it (I love fingering balls).
That being said, I'm sure it'll be fine. Balls get chewed up (I love chewing balls) pretty quickly anyway.
