first marathon? take it steady until mile 20 then see how you feel. you could double your half time and add 15 mins to set a reasonable goal, assuming you've done adequate training. good luck.

+1 it's a lot easier to take it easy and speed up, rather than blowing up at 20 and then desperately digging just to finish the thing...
