• I guess this is my first "real" build - I've only owned a cheap 'n nasty beater prior to this. I've been collecting various bits and pieces for this for a year now, so getting the frame back from Armourtex (RAL6003 Matt, £69.25) was the catalyst for a weekend's fun putting it all together.

I had intended to put together a porteur initially (hence VO bars, mafac cantis and levers, chainguard etc) but it ended up a bit of a mishmash - a little porteur, a little randonneur, and probably quite a few textbook errors.

    Still to do:

install socket head bolts wherever possible, and apply ballbearings/tynan paste liberally. Set up derailleur & chainguard (which is botched on with old band-on derailleur fittings and l-brackets at the moment) and find some way of attaching my father's old satchel as a pannier without destroying either satchel or pannier:

    Points of interest:
Sachs Huret Jubilee derailleur has a homemade return spring... waiting to see how well this fares. I built the wheels myself (ditto on how well they fare) and the leather grips are a little chunky as I put two layers of cloth tape underneath them, but hopefully they'll bed down a little with use. The alu bottle I got from a brand new swiss camping stove setup, but it seems to fit both bottle cage and aesthetic nicely.

Please feel free to make your opinions on my efforts known loud and clear, preferably referencing the memez of the interwebz or your own vastly superior knowledge, based on infinitely more experience and wisdoms than mine.
