I find it mad what people spend their money on. People who buy a new Ford Fiesta every three years, for example, with depreciation hitting them for about £2k a year.
That's considered normal and sensible, but buying a fantastic road bike, custom-made, which I'll use for years and years, at a fraction of that cost, is extravagant? Do piss off...
I wouldn't even listen to someone arguing that it's too much to spend on a bike. None of their damn business.
