Quick question.
I've obtain a Western Digital My Passport Studio 640GB external hard drive.
Regarding the back-up, I'm using WD's own software (SmartWare) to back-up my computer, would Time Machine be a better choice of software to back-up my computer?

ditch the WD smartware. there is an uninstaller available on the website.
i'm not a fan of time machine. i prefer super duper for bootable clones or chronosync. -

The WD have a password lock, which is helpful in keeping my files secure though, but that's about it.
Very convinced by Super Duper though, especially with the limitation of Time Machine (i.e. fully bootable).
probably will get it when I have the money.

super duper user here - works a like a charm backing up nightly on an automatic schedule...
( I think it's free without scheduling )

Mac problem. Have the mac pro set up in the front room as I make space in the study, playing iTunes as per normal, chair falls over knocks computer, which now emits high pitched beeping sound, mouse frozen. Press and hold power button to shut it down. Wait required ten seconds startit back up again. HD ticking over, black screen from old apple monitor, press power button on monitor lights up then fades, all connections good. Any suggestions? Do I need new monitor, repair mac pro. Have no idea whether compter is good or bad, think it's good from ticking of HD as it boots up, but obviously can't see whether it is. Anyone got a monitor I can borrow to check.
I'm south London, let me know.. -

well not that good a value as you'd have to getting a hell of a lot of paid income to pay out £1000 odd on the whole suite, individual programs maybe
just check piratebay they will always have the cracks for Mac and PC for the latest versions. its what i did all though college and uni,
I think if you made only £1,000 with an Adobe Production suite you are in the wrong business to start with, for what you get it's incredibly cheap, if on the other hand you are just fucking around and it's not your main thing then a bootleg copy makes sense, but regardless £1,000 is dirt cheap.

you can get 800-400 adapter blocks too....or just route the two machines through a hard drive with FW800 & FW400 (the hard drive doesn't even need to be powered up).
Laptop FW400 >>> into the Hard drive FW400 port >>> out of the Hard drive FW800 port >>> Mac Pro FW800

Anyone know how to remap key functions?
I want to map fn+F11 (show desktop) to F5. I'm a lazy man, I don't like pressing two keys when I could press one. -

I want to map fn+F11 (show desktop) to F5. I'm a lazy man, I don't like pressing two keys when I could press one.Go to Exposé & Spaces . . . (in System Preferences)
Click on the Exposé tab at the top.
Go down to where it says 'Show Desktop' > click on the pull down menu and select F5
Job done.

Thanks, I just worked it out, then came back here to say how to do it. My instructions wouldn't have been as clear as yours though.

any geeks on this thread know when some faster Macpros will come out?
i just went to replace my 3 year old mac pro and found that there's still nothing with a faster clock-speed than the one i already have.
Hahaha
I searched desperately for that fucker but couldn't find so had to use one of those online generators or I'd lose 'the moment'.
