Finished my girlfriend's conversion -
armourtexed Holdsworth from HilaryStone, wheels from Varno
nitto bars, wald basket, VO mudguards.
Bit of a bodge to fit the basket with such a short headtube but works pretty well.here's a couple pics for anyone interested in the basket installation for short headtubes.

Headset has arrived, but I haz no tools, and no monies. Gonna have to try and borrow some tools/wait til the weekend to put the new fork etc on the GT! LONG!
Put the race in the oven and the forks in the freezer
(only works if you a bachelor)

They wouldn't suit your frame, and they're 36hls... even tho' their light you'll be better served getting yourself
some Ellipses. I would.Mmmm:

Claud Butler Majestique mixte project nearly finished. Still need some double-sided touring pedals (e.g. Sylvan stream) and a light that would fit the fork bracket. If anybody knows where to find that, help would be appreciated.

That looks lovely....does the saddle work though..?
Have you looked on Hilary stones site for a front lamp..? -
• #41760
Thanks downlo, I might just order that and try to fix some reasonably vintage looking battery lamp to it. Or maybe rebuild a vintage lamp with modern LED technology.
"does the saddle work though..?" - if you mean esthetically, probably not really, but it happens to work for my girlfriends behind, which is more important. It's hard to find women-specific vintage saddles that look nice and are not too padded (and not too expensive, trying to keep this on a budget).

THIS^^^^ has no-one on here done that yet? theres no end of 'authentic vintage' / ancient front lamps knocking around in the junk shops in teh north, add an LED, chip and tiny battery pack et voila ;)

I did that with an original Peugeot lamp.
I bought a small clip-on read LED thing at the 1 euro shop, took out a piece of the internal bulb fitting with a Dremel and could screw the LED right on - I got lucky with the size I found and it couldn't have been more simple.
Don't like the mount too much and I need get a switch mounted somewhere, but it fits nice and snug, so it stays put anyway and works for now.
Let me know if you can't find one, I'll send you one for p+p.

I think a new paintjob is a pretty good idea?...

got bob?
oldschool dura-ace donation anybody? -- please, pretty please?
wearing 27's with 1 1/4" tyres the clearances are pretty pleasing, but finding decent 27" wheels is a mission! also note lack of other stuff, going for full 600/arabesque 6speed rear end, dual rings up front as i have mountains to contend with. need ideas for bars/stem, tried a pretty average 80's drop bar and felt aweful to hold, might be fashionable and go riser or track down some decent randonneur style bars? answers on a postcard (with free dura-ace bits taped to the back please). -

Nice looking frame. I don't know how high your mountains are, but in the past (meaning last year) I've found a number of 5 speed 14-34 Suntour Perfect freewheels. If you're not too concerned about the high end, you could get away with a fairly small single ring up front using one of those.

BrickMan, defintely go for a randonneur-style bar with modern brake/levers, the advantage of such bar is that the top will be flat as well as the bottom making it more comfortable to rest your hand on the brake hood, I had them on my road bike and it's a lots more comfortable to ride;

Mine is the Nitto Randonneur, Velo Orange make some nice one too;
Grand Bois make some even nicer one from the original design that was popular, pricey though;

do not put risers on it I beg you.
some nitto randonneur perhaps? or noodle? or moustache/porteur style bar?
anything but risers...
shimano make a 34 or 32-14 screw on 6 speed, i have one fitted to my Hetchins as I am surrounded by hills.
There was a full arabasque group that went here in good nick for not a lot of monies recently. keep an eye on classifieds.

5 speed 14-34 Suntour Perfect
Avoid, unless you need ultra wide gearing on a 120mm spaced frame and have the Suntour rear mech which can handle the 34 sprocket.
Period correct gearing would be 52/42 at the front and a 13-24 block, maybe a 14-28.

Cheers, guys, that's what I thought I should go for, I think bello orange had some pretty angular looking ones, failing that some nito moustache type would be nice (but maybe not so comfortabe).
Shimano apparently did a 50/40 set of rings in 600 and dura ace favour and I already have a,nos 600 free wheel not sure what ratios irt holds, but with the smaller rings I think it wil be ok. Alternstively I could go for small single front as I do love spinning.

with a new track frame and forks on the way and an ever increasing amount of stuff to carry around with me i decided to give my beloved 07 flyer a practical overhaull...(sorry for big, shit pics)
the chaps at TFG did the build and drilled the dropouts to fit the rear mudguard, its tight as fuck with 28c 's but works fine.
my old fizik pave never fitted me well so ive got a charge bucket on the way, otherwise i recon its done!

I like it! I kind of wish it didn't have the Genesis stickers but you've done a bloody good job.
