Not flat at all, I think I will use a medium 72" gear for that one.
Hippy the A228/A26 between Tonbridge and Maidstone is gently rolling but that would be a lot of the same stretch of road to train for a 24.
Could you replicate TT position on a road bike for training?Training I should start doing some soon as possible I don't want to suffer like I did on the 12 hour last year.

The Hainault Hilly was fucking cold, and fucking hard work on the fixed gear. I sort of lost the will to live at one point. Another massive leap up the field for me, compared to last time, so I'm happy. I was 18th, and CatMan off the forum was 13th.
TBH, I've had enough of hilly courses now, and am looking forward to more gently undulating semi-sporting stuff. Want to see what happens when I get the chance to find a rhythm on the fixed…
Dowsett's the scratch man next week, but he's off 27 minutes after me, so I'd have to fuck up in a spectacular fashion to have him come past me.
I notice pj (pj) of forum-when-it-was-still-good fame has been getting some decent early season placings over in the West Country.

Thanks for the info fwn. The more I think about this 24 stuff the more I realise just finishing is a great primary goal. I can go for the club record next year on the flatter course up north (if I can remain sane enough to continue training).

Do you know how to generate elevation data from a google map of the course? I'm sure I've done it before but can't for the life of me remember how.
Plot on bikeroutetoaster.com or similar, will generate elevation data (in the summary tab. Ride with GPS has a nicer overlay I think but I'm less familiar with it).

I've used Gmap to GPX before, although these days I don't bother with google maps routing.

It'll create a gpx file that you can 'whack in' to other mappers like those 'op there.

Chapeau. That was a good ride on that gear - with a 13-24 I ran out of gears both ways in a number of different places. First time back on the TT rig since last season and I feel beat up right now. Bring on the sub-1 hour E1/25 rides!

Yesterday was the Kent CA 3-Up TT held on the Q25/12 - Romney Marsh. The team I was in finished third overall with 56mins.27secs, 2nd did 55mins.43secs and the winners, Datateam did 53mins.44secs. Fairly pleased with the time considering its only March, the head wind on the way back was horrible but the rain stayed away, bonus.

Just bought myself a Dura-Ace cassette: 12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19-20-21
Still not sure about gearing for the 24.
One report I read mentioned running a compact chainset in order to get a straight chainline for riding ~30kph mark. Depends how bumpy the Sussex course is. The straight block I've bought might be more suited to flatter, shorter races but now I've got one to use at least.

3hr on the TT bike and the longest this season. I think the SLR T1 saddle has to go or my position has to be rotated back to one slightly less aggressive otherwise my undercarriage will never forgive me.

Don't worry, you'll be out of the saddle climbing so much in the 24 that saddle choice will become irrelevant.
Personally, I found the padded nose of a TT/Tri saddle worse than the regular road version

I used to run saddles tilted slightly down at the front as I tended to push myself up and didn't mind the weight on my arms but since training for this 24 has been slower stuff for longer I've found the SLR tilted up at the front is a bit better.

I used to run saddles tilted slightly down at the front as I tended to push myself up and didn't mind the weight on my arms but since training for this 24 has been slower stuff for longer I've found the SLR tilted up at the front is a bit better.
I use an Adamo saddle on my TT bike now and in the aero position it is much more comfortable, no trouble on the 12 hour last year " well not from the saddle any way"

That course (E14/10a) is used on a number of other days midweek by quite a few other clubs (Glendene, Easterly, Ford etc...). If it's London East district you are after then pretty much everyone will be starting by the 2nd week of April and most are mid-week (the ELV one is quite rare being on a Friday). A London East handbook is your friend.

@hippy quite like that Great Missendon course do you know the code for it? Or if any club events coming up on it?
HCC109 and H10/4 are the Amersham Road 10 courses, the 25s are HCC113 and HCC114 aka H25/4. Amersham RC and Westerley CC do some Sunday club 25s and VC10 do Wednesday evening 10s and 25s on those roads.

I've now got a silly angled stem to lift the bars up and remove/reduce the forward drop of my back and my SLR Gel Flow instead of the SLR T1 has been fitted. I need to fix the brakes (add more Nokon bits to the cable) before testing the updated 24 setup. Gearing is still unknown..
