  • I've just finished turning my Nike high tops into spd shoes.
started with some nike (funnily enough) spd shoes, a knife, some glue and my Nike high tops

Then chopped the spd shoes to pieces to get the hard soles out. I found a bread knife worked well for this.

Then I took the inner soles out the High tops, placed the hard soles inside and marked where the holes are. Then I chopped through the bottom sole of the shoes.

I put loads of glue on the underside of the hard soles, let it dry a little then put them inside the shoes and packed with newspaper to keep them pressed down.
Roughly 24 hours later I removed the newspaper and gave them a little test and all seems to be good. So I put in the metal plate the cleats screw in to, sorted the position of the cleats and screwed them in. I used the inner sole of the spd shoes as the original Nike high top ones squashed my foot a bit by the toes with this new layer of sole inside.
I can clip in and out with no trouble, and the cleat does not stick past the outer sole so there's no clicking noise when walking.

Not ridden them yet, but will tomorrow. All in all, very impressed and it was really easy. Thanks goes to HatBeard for the cheap spd shoes.
