It's actually pretty easy to build a classic wheel lighter than the Ellipses - they are not light. Open Pro on small flange Record/Phil/DA/Royce hubs with CX-Rays would come to about 200g less than Ellipses, even using DT Comps and should get you a lighter wheel than the Ellipse.
