Just looked at whitworth and it's not pretty... They've taken up the rubber just leaving Tarmac... But it's crumbling away where the joins in the rubber used to be... We could try sweeping away the loose grit but the surface will be much worse than the rubber.... ! Fuck!

just a thought, why don't we put it to the council that if they let us call it ours, we'll pay to have it resurfaced? i have to say i have no idea how much that'd cost but it doesn't need to be the best of surfaces, just smooth and flat. the main benefits are already there (green space and low walls), we just need to get the surface sorted.as for how we'd raise the money, i'm sure there's some money in the powerhouse pot and we could hold a fundraising tourney (or other fundraising event) at the powerhouse. or even pay dues to be in the MHBPA?
i'm sure the council would rather have a usable court than a mess, they just can't be arsed doing it themselves...

Powerhaus pot I can imagine is very little if existing at all. I think it will cost hundreds to get the sruface redone, as it would have to be done by the coucnicl professionals. Also I don't thinbk the council are in the habit of letting people call certain parts of public parks "theirs" ?
I had a look today too, it's fuckign shit, worse than Manley or Chorlton. I still think we could just resuyrface it oursaelves? bet noone said anything when the hip replacements did bits, and I got some yellow workmans shirts?

it may be a long shot but if we get the council's backing and offer to fund part of it ourselves it's at least worth a try, isn't it? powerhouse court was built on council property, paid for with funding the netball team had. if we set ourselves up as a proper organisation and approach the council, maybe raise some funds through merch and tourneys etc (fsure we can think of a few ways to raise a few hundred quid), it may take a while but there's at least a chance they'll take us seriously. -

if its a case of doing up a court then there must be loads of places that are a possibility to do this, old tennis courts and the like, even something semi coverd?

had a think and maybe resurfacing whitworth is a bit far fetched at the moment, but there's no reason we can't aim for that as a long term goal. i've taken some (non) expert advice and reckon the council may bite if we were to get polo in the news a bit.
i remember seeing a post a while ago, can't remember which thread, but it was an email nes had received from some council bike bloke who said something like 'bike polo is not an activity that we recognise at the moment so we won't be able to offer funding'.
i'd be interested to know what nes sent as a reply. maybe it would be worth finding out what we would need to do to get recognised.
the council are currently offering parkour lessons, with a qualified instructer, on the streets of rusholme. why? because it's been in the news and they want to be seen to be trying to help kids find a past time that doesn't involve hanging around being an arse.
we should use powerhouse to attract the media. jesse james was shot their and however many years on, local kids are using a court in the park to play a cool 'urban' game. it's a rough idea but you can see what i mean.
maybe getting in the news and showing the council that we're serious and can help the community, should be our short term goal at the moment, and see where that takes us.
thoughts? -

I'll check with the parks jb's just to see if they are halfway through a repair and then introduce ourselves as former regular users that they've now inadvertently kicked out. I'll put the onus on them offering a solution as we're all tax paying residents.

thoughts? If we're goign through the efofrt of doing up a court lets not do WW, it's not in a great location and it's not covered, and as soon as we make it good the rappers will all start tryign to play football on it again, I'd rather we had something like what Cambridge do.
As for coverage and polo not being a proper sport, there is something in the works, but don't think it can be gone into on the forum, I'll talk about it when you make it to polo

I'd just like to be able to play a few games at whitworth in the summer with a cold beer... Sure there are other courts we can play on it's just got good polo memories...! We should all have a look on Sunday before polo maybe and see what we reckon, if it's saveable or not...
