    2. veLLo +1
    3. Alpine Kate
    4. Michelle
      5.Mo-mo
    5. Jim Jones +1

  • Hooray - In at no. 310

  • i'm rider number 15 and max is 13 so the pre-reg section can't be more than 12 - i suspect there were non-pre-registered and it's just a very in-demand event. such gentleman are not capable of foul play!

good on teddy for creating such a buzz, good luck to you all in getting the reserve tickets

  • sorry to everyone who couldn't get on the tweed run this year. we hadn't expected it to sell out so quickly.

there is, unfortunately, no reserve list.

  • For the love of God will someone insert a space between "5." and "Mo"?

  • I think a list may be in order!

    1. Lord Boogington-Smythe (all over it like a fine Dundee marmalade)

    2. dr nosh

  • Doesn't seem like a fair fight changing to 11:55. If the wnbr can organise 1000+ why can't the tweed run?

  • because it gets prohibitively expensive to have permits beyond 499 people.

we will have to look at charging properly next year, and have bigger numbers.

  • just offer some explanation for changing the time to 11.55?

  • dear tweed run enthusiasts,

thank you for all your messages regarding registration for this year's tweed run. it is difficult to respond to all immediately so please accept this general message while we try to get out individual responses.

we were expecting a great deal of interest in this years ride however for a number of logistical reasons beyond our control we were only able to limit total numbers to 500.

as advertised we had planned to open registrations at 12 noon today. however we were advised this morning by our web team that there was a high likelihood that the site would crash if every one logged on at 12 exactly. not wanting to cause frustration through site crashing we were advised to open 5 minutes early to allow a gradual increase in registrations. we were astounded that registrations rapidly filled over the following few minutes. we had preregistration places for only 10 people (all organisers) and the remaining 490 places were all web registrations.

please accept our apologies if you did not manage to register - we would very much love to have you all on the ride - but our permits won't let us. please send us feedback and suggestions so that we can improve next years process.

all the best - your hard working and devoted tweed run team x

  • That sounds fair enough, and makes sense.

    thanks for explaining.

  • FYI the rider number doesn't matter, I got rider 552.

thanks for the explanation teddy. Fair enough, but my feedback would be allowing two people to register together, as now I am going on it alone (as it sounds like a lot of people are) instead of spending the day with the friend / partner as planned.

  • If your going to make this bigger and better next year which I sincerely hope you do beacuse I think it a great, fun way to make money for the charity I would seriously consider getting another web hosting provider. If they cant handle more than a few thousand hits at once or even ten thousand hits then there is going to be issues.

I personally would rather of visited a crashed site and realised it was through an unprecedented demand rather than it being opened early.

Saying all this, no one can take away what you are trying to achieve and in fact achieving for the Bikes for Africa charity. Keep up the good work, I hope one day this event is as big as the London to Brighton and I'm sure it will be.

  • again, i can only offer my apologies to those who couldn't register, and promise that we'll try to make the event as great as possible for those who did manage to register.

Was wondering how I could have a confirmation with rider number 524.

  • basically I think it's the old 'pre registered' cronyism I see at a lot of events...

There were 10 spaces pre-registered for the organisers. (sponsors) we understand your frustration. We couldn't believe how fast it filled.

  • I got rider number 27 this morning so there can't have been that many pre-registered!

  • I can't believe that people are being negative about such a positive and successful event.

There has been NO cronyism in this, but lets face it, if Teddy and Jacqui wanted to cherry pick who attended they would have every right to do so - it's their event!!!

We are all their guests, and should behave as such.

    Shame on you!

  • Teddy, want some help I will help out next time or this time?, your always going to get positive and negative in everything. Think of all the people your helping not us moaners!

I sent your a PM earlier. PM me back later this weekend and if you need any help on the day or organising let me know? Even if its stuffing forms into envelopes.....

  • This. They did the hard work, so are entitled to do what they want with the event.

TBH, most concert tickets go up a little early, so the 11.55 opening wasn't that unusual.

Tweed runners probably go to the Proms, so wouldn't be aware of this.

    +2 well said!

  • +3. Take it as a compliment, people are just understandably disappointed to have not got in. It's just frustration talking so I hope it doesn't sour the experience for you.
Focus on the 500+ people whom are ecstatic and looking forward to this, not to mention the money raised for bikes for Africa.

  • Breaking news!
Next year Tweed Runners will have to enter a lottery for places.

Possible Autumn Tweed Run is on the cards!!!!
