Sure, but the seat post lug looks exactly like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclingthings/4057655013/ was this also something all frame builders was able to buy from Cinelli?
-
• #1153
I'm not saying it is NOT a Cinelli, I don't know. Only that Cinelli frame building components - lugs, BB shells, brake bridges, fork crown and so on were available to many builders. Seat clusters i.e. the way that the seat stays attached to the seat tube varied greatly with builders and often they were a 'signature' feature that identified a particular builder. I don't know enough about Cinelli to know about your frame, but it is a well made frame, no doubt about that.

after reading my last comment it might sound a bit arrogant (in lack of a better term) I genuinely just want as much info as possible. Yoav: thank you for your input!

No, not at all. I think though it is very easy to get focused on a well known brand name and overlook the craftsmanship you have in front of you. I am very old school and appreciate the workmanship that went into bike frames. You don't see much of it today except on high end frames.

Yoav I saw you were based in carlisle, nothing to do with the bike recycling place are you?
spoke briefly to some guys in one of the botchergate bike shop who were interested why I had fixed in carlisle, reckoned I was probably the first lol (but then I had to explain I was fixed because I a) couldn't afford decent mech, new block etc b) even decent freewheels cost dollar).

No, nothing to do with me.

Which one of the three was that? Probably Palace Cycles.There are a few fixed riders in Carlisle, judging by the number of fixies I see locked up in the town centre. There are more amongst the racing fraternity here but hey don't ride them in town. I returned to riding fixed about a year ago. Most of my fixed riding is in and around Carlisle, Brampton and Longtown. Not too hilly, just gentle rolling countryside ideal for fixed, I did try it in around Ambleside once but it was just too hilly to comfortably ride a fixed gear.

http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=8E3DB2FD-7B72-4323-8096-1899F8CC18F6&Enum=115&AbsPos=5raleigh code = worksop - 1983 - likley high in their range Ti / SPD - search for raleigh caatlogues 82/83/84
the fast back seat pin was never on any rubbish raelighs and not on many raleighs at all - but normally out and out racers -but coupled with mudguard eyes the combo will be rare
could be this was one of their framaes sold on it's own. or maybe even custom

thanks very much!
from looking at the catalogs, i believe the F+F to be from a 1983 team replica 12, and guessing the mudguard eyes will have been a custom order- which has made me change my mind about filing them off!
I don't plan to sell it, but does anybody know how much its worth? i picked the whole bike up for a little over £100.

^ well I have never visited the shop, but they had a strange habit of rebadging, like turning my Diamant bike into a Daccordi :-/

Thanks again!
I've searched FARNHOLT and all I find is Jan Farnholt (45)
The frame had the Campag. G.S. group, so if the frame is from the same era, our friend Jan would have been too young to ride it!
I NEED TO LEARN MORE DUTCH! -
• #1165
So were these Diamant forks and they used the initial letter on it to pretend that it was a different brand with the same letter?
-
• #1166
that's what I presume. either that or they bought it from someone as exchange and sold it on with their shop sticker on it.

Farnholt was (is???) a big bike store in Steenwijk, named Bike and Hike.
Jan was Guinness Book Record holder some time (tyre replacement, something like that), but as a buisinessman he was and is a total disaster.
Huge shop, bigger car than the director his main sponsor Giant Bikes, ....
Went bankrup several times and made many business victims.
Scum!
Never trust that man and check his product over and over before you buy it. -

any ideas of the frame on this buff road bike? can't make out the name..

The Bridgestone XO is a great bike, it actually came with the moustache bar as standard;
It was designed by Grant Petersen, whom started Rivendell after Bridgestone pulled the plug on their US market.(something to do with his design being too individualistic).
The Rivendell Atlantis is the predesscor of the XO, it's worth noting that they're 26" wheel bicycle;

Cinelli made frame components that any builder could use, in fact, a mark of a good quality frame was the use of Cinelli BB shell and fork crown. But that doesn't mean your frame is a Cinelli.
