• If its just a cheapo run about for the station, why not just buy a second hand bike from your LBS? Itll cost less than one of the bikes you mention above.

  • I just want a cheap but reliable run about to the train station and back. Please can I have sensible opinions (even though I am asking a silly question) x

    that's why not.

  • what would you get

    the bus

  • it will get stolen if you intend to use to get to get by, especially to station and back (station are a very popular for bike thieves).

Get a shitty old bike (as other has said), a decent lock, and you'll be alright.

  • I paid £200 for my s/h Paddywagon. Evans are selling the Mongoose Maurice for £260. (did I do the right thing buying the Kona instead?!).

  • Just get something that look like it'll fall apart, fix it up a bit with a bit of elbow grease and you'll have a working bike to do what you want to do;

  • I paid £200 for my s/h Paddywagon. Evans are selling the Mongoose Maurice for £260. (did I do the right thing buying the Kona instead?!).

Both bike are decent, the second hand price for that kona sound about right.

  • +1 to what ed said, a beater would give you much more pleasure and draw less attention

  • I paid £200 for my s/h Paddywagon. Evans are selling the Mongoose Maurice for £260. (did I do the right thing buying the Kona instead?!).

No, no you did not. I say that as a Paddy Wagon owner.

A brand new bike called Maurice for £260.00 3 pronged win.

  • I think you shouldve had a better title for this thread... Something like "are create bikes going to tear a hole thru my arsehole when the seat post shears and dismember my body under a huge suv when the handlebars snap leaving my dismembered body on regents street"... Something simple

  • Lolz ^

You should find somewhere that has thousands of bike enthusiasts, there has to be one somewhere, and then hang around and chat to them and then maybe one day, a s/h bike will come up, that has been made by said enthusiasts which will no doubt be of solid construction without looking like a hipster bike begging to be stolen.
Now where could you find such a place...

  • I think you shouldve had a better title for this thread... Something like "are create bikes going to tear a hole thru my arsehole faster than the members here for my fucking stupid question"... Something simple
    ftfy

  • ^ outrageously good bike for the price.

  • Well I was looking at this which is pretty damn cheaps: http://www.rutlandcycling.com/31003/Coyote-Tra-Fix-Urban---Anodized-Blue---Singlespeed-Fixed-Fixie-Courier-Bike-.html

friend of mine bought a unipack/create thing. we constantly gave him grief for it. he paid £200 for it and we always suggested 2nd hand off ebay/gumtree.

the components on it are terrible and it weighed far too much. almost like it was made of scaffolding poles.
anyway, he was sprinting round a roundabout on it, the rear hub stripped the thread of the rear sprocket/hub fell apart somehow and he went flying.

hospitalised and a fucked face, knee, arms and bike. just a warning.
you can find some gems via gumtree, ebay etc

£159 and approximately a million times better than either of the ones you're looking at in that it won't fall apart in embarrassing and injurious ways at the least provocation. A couple of guys at work have got them on my advice (not cycling enthusiasts, just daily commuters) and they're brilliant for a getting-about bike.

  • Every time I hear stories like this about Creates I feel warm and fuzzy inside. Not because strangers being injured turns me on, but because I was pushed off a Create I bought for £150 and robbed of it at knifepoint. The vague possibility of it failing catastrophically under that little krunt is heartening, you know?

  • A change in circumstances mean that I need another bike to commute around town. My regular bike causes too much hassle to take in the car so am tempted to splash out on a new single speed to commute once I arrive.

For a second bike i want a cheap singlespeed.
For the sake of £250, is a create much worse than a charge at 550????

    Whats the majority view????

    cheers

  • yes

  • get a fuji track if you want cheap otp

  • In short.

    Yes - read this http://www.lfgss.com/thread23593.html

  • and now: flames

  • I need another bike to commute around town... regular bike causes too much hassle to take in the car.. single speed to commute once I arrive.

I'd like to hear more about these peculiar circumstances first.

  • Cannot believe you couldn't be arsed in the very slightest to type 'create' in the search box of this forum to find the answer you're looking for.

foolish man, ride your bike instead of taking it in the car.
