Sounds quirky. And I do need to introduce you to this friend of mine whom I mentioned the other day.

Harringay / Haringey btw.
/former resident/worked with local authoritythat aside, good going :)
*Haringey: Troubled London borough that will always be known for child tragedies
Haringey has long been known for its high crime rate, with the north London borough at the centre of the capital's heroin market and gang shootings common on the streets. But the borough will for ever be synonymous with the tragic deaths of children and the failure of the authorities to prevent them.
*I gotta move out of here.

What's the difference between Tottenham Hotspur and Baby P?
Tottenham are still being regularly beaten at home.

Jan's in Stoke Newington? Right near the east's drink pub
Always really quiet
AMAZING if you like Belgian beer and nice Jazz, never seen more than two other people there, plus plenty of bike racks right outside

I'm not sure that Belgian beer and no clientele counts as quirky, so it may not quite qualify for this ride.
However, it still sounds like a good place to go sometime. Every time I look at it, it appears to be closed - is this just a cunning disguise?

cycled past a couple of interesting-looking pubs in the last few days but can't place them now.
one i think was the Masons Arms, it looked 'interesting' in a lace curtains authentic/ maybe scary way, i thought it was round Vauxhall, but can't remember what road, and BITE isn't helping me. pretty sure it wasn't in walworth.
second was somewhere between St.James' Park and Lambeth Br, maybe Horseferry Rd, it had an unusual name, like the Clerk or something legal-related. can probably find that one again, but really stumped on the first. -

Shame the Oakdale Arms is closing down. Moved to Haringay a few months ago and it's my favourite boozer in the area (not that there is that much competition!)
With regard to quirky pubs, how about the Mucky Pup in Islington? http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/51/5169/Mucky_Pup/Angel_Islington

I'm new here but would love to join a pub bike crawl ride.
Couple of more suggestions, The Seven Stars nr Chancery Lane - Thomas Payne the resident cat and Roxy Beaujolais the barmaid! Pub pre-dates the Great Fire of London and has the steepest stairs to the toilets... The Grenadier off Hyde Park, former officers mess and haunted by a soldier supposedly killed over a game of poker. The Princess Louise in Holborn, renovated victorian gin palace, The Olde Cheshire Cheese, just a few of my occassional haunts.

I always went to the Beaconsfield. Not sure why though, definitely a dive.
And the Salisbury for some fancy food and good music. -

The Salisbury on Green Lanes? Architecturally lovely. The bar is subject to a preservation order.
-
• #162
Never been to its architectural sibling pub, queens / queen's / the queen's head in Crouch End. Kept meaning to.

Bump bump bump. Is this on or what?
Quirky pubs ride, Saturday 19th Feb 2011. Start at what, 11am outside LMNH? First stop the Oakdale?
Could do with a volunteer who knows where they're going to lead this - most of the route is unfamiliar to me.

heh. I was hoping someone else would step in...maybe I'll start a new thread a little later or something. Would you be up for a recce of the route sometime over the next couple of weeks? Maybe even this sat?
-
• #166
Go for it, guys. Saturday would be fine. Have we settled on the pubs, then? I won't be able to help with preparation, but I'll be able to lead us from general area of pub to general area of next pub without preparation. There should just be someone with an idea of how to find the precise street.

Quirky pubs ride, Saturday 19th Feb 2011.
Er, you meant 19th March right? That's the day of the closing party.
-
• #168
Oh. I'd be happy to go on one on Saturday, too, though.
-
• #169
I think there is a pub or two to be considered to replace the tavern. I'll look through the suggestions and make an autocratic call (sprt of). Otherwise I know where all the others are in the list and am able to find them, I remember the route fairly well from last time. Fox, is that a tentative "in"? It would be good to have Oliver as well!
-
• #170
We just have to agree on the month. :)
-
• #171
The month of the final ride is March - the 19th. Recce this saturday for those who are up for it. But you knew that Oliver...
-
• #172
I'm just being quirky.
No, Fox confused me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)
-
• #173
Shows how much attention I've been paying!
But yeah, I'm up for a spin around town this Saturday. Need to be in Waterloo around 6 or 7ish in the evening, but that should still give plenty of time. People don't go to Peckham after dark anyway, do they?
-
• #174
I do, every day.
#hardcore
I was thinking a morning/ early afternoon spin anyway. Starting 10/11 ish or so, which should give us plenty of time. I keep saturdays free for riding anyway...so anytimes good.

I was in a page back! So yes.
I'll be around mostly, but in Brussels from Friday 'til Sunday night for FOSDEM geek and beer fest
