could be anything, using photoshop? cache and temporary swap files could slow things down or the usual permissions slowing things down, have you applejacked/repaired permissions after software update?
i know this is my usual response but it does often clear up any glitches.
going to 8gb ram will see a difference if you work on 2gb+files.
if you do use photoshop try turning off open-GL and restarting.
