I've been hankering after a triumph thruxton for years - even though i know they are a bit more show than go - and this lil vid just made me want one even more. It's Better In The Wind - 2011 Trailer 2 on Vimeo
Where can i find a spare 5K? Any ideas?
B.
If you're prepared to travel you can get one for less than 4K.
They do seem to really hold their value though.
It's a bit of a beast, and until I changed the tyres I didn't like riding it, but since then I've grown to love mine.
Throw away the standard Metzeler tyres and get Avon Roadriders fitted (in the standard sizes). Get the loud pipes, and get the air injection kit removed.
As far as the performance goes, there's loads of low-end grunt from 2000 rpm or so, so getting off the line will embarrass any 4 cylinder bike, and there's always overtaking grunt. There's plenty of go. You can go get a Wiseco big bore kit and other things and tune it to 90bhp or so. (beware though. start tuning a bike and you'll get addicted, and poor) If you want to tune it, you're best going for the earlier (pre 2006?) carburettor model. This drinks more but can make a lot more power than the EFI model as it doesn't have to meet any emissions regs. http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/triumph/38653-my-2006-modified-triumph-thruxton.html
