Formulaic 'coming of age' story with a vague Northern Soul themed musical backdrop. I would have preferred something darker, edgier....less practicing dance steps in the bedroom, more about trying to capture what it was about the music that did it for so many people?
It seemed like it was rushed into being to cash in on the current interest in Soul lite pop music (Duffy....Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings etc)
Hopefully Elaine Constantine's upcoming film will do the subject matter justice
